Red Dead Revolver feature

Rockstar’s Red Dead Revolver Has Been Ported to PC

Before Red Dead Redemption, there was Red Dead Revolver. Red Dead Revolver was Rockstar’s first attempt at creating a GTA-like western open-world game. Like the first RDR game, it was released exclusively on consoles. But now PC gamers can enjoy it with proper keyboard and mouse controls.

The PC port supports modern screen sizes and resolutions. Players can choose their monitor, switch between fullscreen, borderless, and windowed modes, and set the game to their screen’s native resolution. They can also change the render scale from 20% to 200%. This makes it possible to render the game at a higher or lower size than the screen output.

The port also removes the original frame rate limit. Players can set a custom frame rate, match their monitor’s refresh rate, or remove the cap. V-Sync is also available to help reduce screen tearing. Other display options include HDR10 support, an FPS counter, and a field of view slider. Players can also choose how old video scenes fit on widescreen displays. A color blind mode is included, too.

There are many new graphics settings. Ambient occlusion adds soft shadows where objects meet. Players can choose between SSAO and GTAO. MSAA and SMAA help smooth rough edges, and both can be used at the same time. The port also supports anisotropic filtering to improve the look of textures at a distance. Players can turn the game’s screen blur on or off as well.

Another useful feature is support for custom textures. Players can replace the game’s textures with their own PNG or DDS files. They can also dump all the textures used by the game. This makes it easier to create, test, and share texture packs.

It’s also worth noting that the PC port adds full keyboard and mouse support with raw input. Moreover, it supports controllers through SDL3, including gyro aiming for gamepads with motion sensors. This works with the right stick, so players can use both to aim. Supported devices include the DualSense, DualShock 4, and Switch Pro Controller.

There are also several smaller quality-of-life features. Players can skip the opening logos, hide the HUD, and pause the game and sound when they switch to another window. The port supports English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. It can also pick the language set in Windows. Players can add their own splash screen and even replace the mouse cursor shown in the game’s menus.

All in all, this appears to be the best way to experience Red Dead Revolver. So, if you’ve never played it, I highly recommend giving this unofficial PC port a go. You can download it from here.
