Now here is something really cool. YouTube’s ‘SvenX.’ is currently trying to port Gran Turismo 7 in Unreal Engine 5, and has shared a comparison video. This is a really cool concept, so let’s take a closer look at it.
So far, the YouTuber has ported two cars and two tracks. The main goal now is to make sure the graphics, all screens, and sound work just like they do on the PlayStation. Once that is done, the full menu will be added, with the same look and features as the PlayStation version. DLSS 5 has also been added for RTX 4000 series GPUs. Multi Frame Generation is supported, too.
In the following video, we see Gran Turismo running on the PS5 emulator, KyTyPS5, and in Unreal Engine 5. The Unreal Engine 5 version runs, obviously, better. To give you an idea, KyTyPS5 runs the game at 33 FPS on an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080. That same system pushes over 80 FPS in the UE5 version.
From what I can see, there are some minor visual differences between the original and the UE5 versions. For instance, reflections are better in the original version. As for the draw distance and pop-in issues you see in the original version, these are most likely due to the emulator. I’ve played GT7, and I don’t remember those awful pop-in shadow issues.
All in all, this is a cool concept and nothing more. SvenX. is not trying to optimize Gran Turismo 7. GT7 had great optimization on PS5 when it came out. He is simply experimenting with it. And, honestly, it’s really cool to see GT7 in a completely different engine.
I don’t know whether the YouTuber has any plans to release a demo of this unofficial port of GT7 in UE5. If he does, I’ll be sure to share its download link with you.
Speaking of Unreal Engine 5, you should also check out the following fan projects. For instance, you can find some faithful remasters of Dark Souls and Dark Souls 3, which are super cool. A few months ago, we also shared an amazing remake of Toy Story 2. Then there’s this cool fan remake of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. Let’s also not forget this fantastic fan remake of STALKER that’s worth a look. Oh, and don’t miss the Grand Theft Auto 6 fan concept in UE5; it’s pretty impressive.
In February 2024, we also shared fan remakes of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and GTA 3, as well as an Uncharted fan game. We also have a remaster of Unreal Gold and a cool fan remake of Doom 3. You should also watch the full-on remake video for Final Fantasy 9, and this HD-2D Fan Remake for Xenogears. Moreover, here is a fantastic fan remake of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. Yesterday, we also shared a fan remake of Doom 3 in UE5.
Need for Speed Carbon and Tony Hawk’s Underground also have some awesome fan remakes. There’s even a fan remake of Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation that features Angelina Jolie and Christoph Waltz. But that’s not all. Fans have also made remakes for Star Wars: Republic Commando, Death Stranding, Fallout 4, Grand Theft Auto 4, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Fallout 4, Resident Evil 1, and Silent Hill 3’s Lakeside Amusement Park. A former Infinity Ward and Wargaming artist has also remastered Half-Life 2’s train station intro in Unreal Engine 5. Let’s also not forget the upcoming fan remake of Resident Evil 3.5. Oh, and there’s a video showing MGS2’s iconic intro in UE5.
Enjoy!
