Super Mario All-Stars Gets Unofficial PC Port With Ultrawide Support and 2-Player Co-op

An unofficial PC port of the classic SNES Super Mario collection, Super Mario All-Stars, has just been released. Among some cool QoL improvements, the PC port comes with a new 2-player co-op mode. As such, it’s a must-have for all Super Mario fans.

The PC port includes all four games from the SNES collection: Super Mario Bros., The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 2, and Super Mario Bros. 3. It also has a new launcher with a live preview of each game. You can show all four games as separate cards or start the full collection just as it was on the SNES. The launcher also gives you quick access to the settings, achievements, music player, and other options.

One of its biggest features is true widescreen support. You can play in 16:9 or even 21:9. Unlike a simple screen stretch, the port adds more of each level to the sides. It also keeps the game world working as it should. Enemies can appear and move in the wider area, and their attacks still work outside the old 4:3 screen. The game also adjusts its backgrounds and HUD to fit the new view.

You can change how the game looks in many ways. There are several filters, such as sharp bilinear, CRT scanlines, CRT aperture grille, and LCD grid. You can also use slang shaders from RetroArch. The port even includes seven CRT shader presets. Other options let you change screen curves, remove sprite limits, and adjust the strength of visual effects.

There are also many color settings. You can pick from several color profiles or change brightness, contrast, saturation, gamma, and color temperature. There are even options for players with color vision issues. You can also give Mario and Luigi their own alternate colors in Super Mario Bros. and The Lost Levels.

The PC port also adds a high frame rate mode. The games still run at their normal speed of about 60 FPS, but the port can draw extra frames on displays that support 100Hz or more. This makes movement look smoother. You can also use Black Frame Insertion to make motion look sharper on supported screens. VSync and frame pacing options help keep the image smooth, too.

Another major feature is two-player co-op. You can play as Mario and Luigi at the same time in Super Mario Bros., The Lost Levels, and Super Mario Bros. 3. Both players can move, jump, fight enemies, collect items, and use power-ups. They share lives and can help each other reach the end of each level.

The co-op mode also handles players who fall behind. If one player stops moving, the game can bring them back near the other player. If one player loses a life, they can return while the other keeps playing, as long as lives remain. In Super Mario Bros. 3, both players also keep their own forms and power-ups. The mode uses a faster emulated CPU to help keep the game running at its normal speed.

Players can also unlock 82 achievements across the four games. These cover many tasks, from beating bosses to finding secrets and finishing levels without taking damage. Some achievements track your progress across many runs. You can view them in a menu, along with the date you earned each one. To keep these rewards fair, cheats, level select, fast forward, and rewind are turned off while achievements are active.

There are many extra tools to make the games easier to play. Save states let you save and load your progress at any time. Rewind lets you go back through about one minute of play. You can also fast forward through parts of a game. These tools can be turned off if you want a more classic challenge.

The level select menu lets you jump to any world or level in all four games. You can also use cheats, such as infinite lives, invincibility, and extra power-ups. Each game has its own set of cheats. There is also a sound test that lets you play music and sound effects from the games.

The built-in music player is another nice extra. It has named track lists for the menus, levels, and world maps. You can play tracks in order or repeat them. It uses its own sound chip, so it does not interrupt the game.

The port also gives players full control over their settings. You can change the display mode, screen size, aspect ratio, and monitor. You can also adjust audio volume and latency, mute the game when it is not in focus, and change the controls for both players. It supports Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro, and USB SNES controllers, as well as keyboard input. You can also take screenshots at any time.

You can go ahead and download this unofficial PC port from here. As always, it does not contain any in-game assets. To play it, you must provide your own US copy of Super Mario All-Stars.
