Conker Live & Reloaded PC feature

Conker: Live & Reloaded Comes to PC with Online Play & Graphical Enhancements

An unofficial PC port of Conker: Live & Reloaded has just been released. Conker: Live & Reloaded came out on the original Xbox in 2005. And now, over two decades later, PC gamers can enjoy it on their PC systems.

The project comes with a launcher that handles the setup. On the first run, players select their own US Xbox disc image. The launcher checks the disc, extracts the game, and builds the PC version. The process takes a few minutes and works offline. The launcher also holds all game settings, so players can change graphics, sound, controls, mods, and online options in one place.

The PC port adds many graphics options. It supports widescreen screens at any size, including 16:9, 21:9, and 32:9. The image is not stretched, and wider screens show more of the game world. Players can use any screen size and choose full-screen, borderless, or windowed mode. They can also change the internal render scale from 25% to 400%.

The game can run at 30, 60, 120, 180, or 240 FPS. It also supports V-Sync. There is an option to keep the game logic at its original 30 FPS while drawing extra frames at 60 or 120 FPS. This helps avoid bugs that can happen when the game logic runs faster than it was made to. Other graphics options include up to 8x MSAA, SMAA, up to 16x anisotropic filtering, ambient occlusion, film grain, and chromatic aberration.

The project also adds visual upgrades that are not part of the original Xbox game. Characters and objects can use per-pixel lighting. Fur has softer shading, and full fur detail stays visible at a distance. Characters and grass also keep their full detail at all distances. Distant grass can move in the wind, while water reacts to nearby movement with ripples. The port also fixes the blur seen on reflective floors and adds rope physics.

Cutscenes receive these upgrades, too. They play at the selected screen size and frame rate, with per-pixel lighting and improved fur shading. Players can also skip any cutscene by pressing LT, even if they have not watched it before.

The port offers wide control support. Players can use Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch controllers, with rumble and adjustable vibration strength. Keyboard and mouse controls are also supported, including mouse camera control. Every key can be changed in the launcher. Local split-screen supports up to four players on one PC, and each player can use a different device.

Online play is another major PC feature. The original Xbox System Link mode was made for local networks, but this version lets players connect over the internet. A host can create a room and share a six-word code with friends. Players enter the code to join without typing an IP address. Friends on the same network can also find games without a code. The system uses direct peer-to-peer connections, with no game server in between.

The launcher also adds a few useful extras. An optional decensor mod can be downloaded and installed from the launcher. It is off by default, and the launcher checks the file before applying it. The game also avoids the old Xbox Live sign-in screen, which could cause the game to hang. Logs can be shared to help find bugs, and they do not include IP addresses.
