Command and Conquer fans, here is something special for you. The team behind OpenCNC 3D has added support for Red Alert. This will allow you to play Red Alert on modern PCs with a new 3D look.
This fan remake keeps the original game’s core rules and gameplay while adding new ways to see and play the classic RTS. Players can switch between the original 2D look and a new 3D mode called Enhanced. This lets fans enjoy the old style or try the game with new visuals. The project aims to keep the feel of the classic game while making it look fresh on modern screens.
The Enhanced Mode adds real-time light, shadows, and other visual effects. Buildings, units, and terrain gain more depth. Explosions can light up nearby areas, while smoke, debris, and craters add more detail to battles. Units and buildings also cast shadows, and the game blends motion between its old animation steps for smoother movement.
Players can also change how the game looks. The visual settings include color effects, bloom, soft shadows, and a CRT-style filter. A live settings panel lets players tune these effects while they play.
RA3D aims to keep the original Red Alert gameplay intact. Players can build bases, gather funds, train troops, and send tanks and other units into battle. The game uses the original rules for unit movement, combat, and pathfinding. This helps keep the action true to the classic game.
The project also brings the campaign experience to the new version. Players can play missions, view the original story scenes, and save or load their progress. Optional movies and music can be added through the launcher.
Those interested can go ahead and download the latest version of OpenCNC 3D from here. Below, you can also find its latest trailer. This trailer has numerous sequences from the 3D remake of Red Alert. As such, it can give you a pretty good idea of what you can expect from it.
Have fun!
