DOOM & Civilization VI have sold more than 2 million copies on Steam, Dark Souls 3 & Rise of the Tomb Raider nearing 2 million copies

It appears that DOOM and Sid Meiers Civilization VI were two of the best – sales wise – Steam releases in 2016. Both of these titles have sold more than 2 million copies. Truth be told, there was a free weekend for DOOM that boosted its playerbase. However, Civilization VI has managed to achieve those sales without any free weekend. First HD texture pack for Rise of the Tomb Raider released, updates over 70 textures

Modder ‘veironn’ has released the first HD texture pack for Rise of the Tomb Raider. This texture pack updates over 70 textures, mainly for Lara’s skin and clothes. However, and contrary to most texture packs, this one replaces the old designs with brand new ones (it also adds tattoos to Lara). First AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X gaming benchmark revealed

AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper 1950X will be released later this month and while this CPU does not target PC gamers, Linus Tech Tips has revealed the first gaming benchmark for it. In case you weren’t aware of, the AMD Ryzen Thredripper 1950X features 16 cores and 32 threads, is clocked at 3.4GHz (and can be boosted to 4GHz) and will be priced at $999. AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition runs PREY & Rise of the Tomb Raider significantly slower than the NVIDIA GTX1080

DudeRandom84 has benched the AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition in PREY and Rise of the Tomb Raider, and shared his results (which are really interesting). PREY is a title that AMD chose to showcase its RX Vega GPU at Computex 2017, however it appears that AMD’s latest graphics is running this game noticeably slower than NVIDIA’s default GTX1080 GPU. AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition performs somewhere between the GTX1070 & the GTX1080 in a variety of games

PCPer got its hands on an AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition and ran some gaming benchmarks on it, and the results were a bit underwhelming. Now as we’ve already said, this graphics card is for workstations and even though AMD has included a gaming mode in its latest drivers for this graphics card, it is slower than the gaming variant that will be coming out in late July. The latest update for Rise of the Tomb Raider significantly improves DX12 performance in CPU-bound scenes

Now here is a nice surprise. As we’ve already reported, both Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Rise of the Tomb Raider suffered from underwhelming performance in DX12. And yesterday, NIXXES released a brand new patch for Rise of the Tomb Raider that improves DX12 performance, especially in CPU-bound situations. NIXXES on DirectX 12: “DX12 is hard, can be worth the extra effort, but it may not be either”

At this year’s GDC, Jurjen Katsman, CEO of NIXXES Software, talked about DirectX 12 and expressed his opinions about it. As we’ve already said, DX12 is not exactly what it was promised and it appears that Katsman agrees to this. And while he admitted that DX12 can be worth the extra effort, he also claimed that it may not be (at least for some developers).
