New Reshade version is available for download, offering experimental support for DX12 games

New DXR Tech Demo shows amazing real-time ray tracing and global illumination effects

Opus Visual has released a new video, showcasing its new DXR Tech Demo. This demo was created for the Nvidia DXR Contest and showcases real-time raytracing and global illumination capabilities. Unfortunately, the team did not release this tech demo to the public so we don’t know what it requires in order to run with 60fps at both 1080p and 1440p. DX12 is noticeably faster in Anno 1800 than DX11 on older systems, 10fps performance improvement

Anno 1800 releases tomorrow and Ubisoft has provided us with a review code for our PC Performance Analysis purposes. This new strategy game comes with support for both DX11 and DX12, therefore we’ve decided to benchmark these two APIs in order to see whether there are any meaningful performance differences between them. Microsoft brings DirectX 12 to Windows 7, World of Warcraft the first game supporting it

Now here is a pleasant surprise. Microsoft has announced that it is bringing its latest API, DirectX 12, to Windows 7. Yeap, you read that right. Windows 7 now supports DX12 and the first game that can take advantage of it is World of Warcraft. PC games with minor ray tracing capabilities will come out in 2018

Toni Tamasi, senior vice president of content and technology at Nvidia, told Fudzilla that the first PC games with support for ray tracing will come out later this year. As Tamasi claimed, these first games will not be completely ray traced but instead a combination of traditional shader/rasterization with ray tracing. The state of DX12 games in 2017, is DirectX 12 losing its steam?

Back in 2016, we published an article about the state of DirectX 12 in PC gaming. As we wrote back then, DX12 failed to impress as a new API. Most of the DX12 versions of 2016’s PC games were running slower than their DX11 counterparts, something that really surprised us. However, back then we only tested NVIDIA’s GPUs.
