Earlier this month, we informed you about a mod that brought the whole map from Grand Theft Auto 4 to GTA 5. And, to the surprise of no one, Rockstar Games has shut it down.
Titled Liberty City Preservation Project, this mod brought the entirety of Liberty City to GTA V. This included the map, vehicles, pedestrians, interiors, ambiance, radio stations, and more. So, in a way, it felt like an unofficial expansion for GTA 5.
Apparently, the mod was so good that it “forced” Rockstar Games to get in touch with the modding team behind it. And, after a conversation, the modders decided to shut it down. My guess is that Rockstar – and Take-Two – threatened the team with a C&D letter.
The cancelation of the Liberty City Preservation Project shouldn’t surprise anyone. After all, Take-Two has shut down similar projects in the past. Hell, they even attempted to take down FiveM. This is why I told you to download it while you still could. The writing was on the wall.
So there you have it. Take-Two and Rockstar will keep taking down mods no matter what. It’s a shame really. The modding community around GTA 5 is huge. Thus, you’d think that Take-Two and Rockstar would be grateful for it. But no. At the end of the day, it is business as usual.
Speaking of Grand Theft Auto 5, we also suggest taking a look at these other free mods for it. For instance, we have this mod that overhauls over 70 side characters. Then there is this Real Life Beverly Hills Mod. Evil Soul is a cool horror-themed mod. Plus, you should not sleep on Sunshine Dream. NaturalVision Evolved Mod is a graphical overhaul mod that aims to improve the game’s lighting. QuantV is interesting another graphical mod for Rockstar’s open-world title. In November 2023, we also shared a mod that restored all of GTA5’s cut songs. And finally, there is a DLSS 3 Frame Generation Mod for it.

Well leave the game alone and stop modding and this won't happen. Play GTA 5 like it's meant to be and quit trying to basically destroy the game. That's exactly what is happening. I'm actually glad they put a stop to it, see this is why these type of games should not be put on PC, keep them with consoles, that's what these games are meant to be on. They started on console they need to stay that way.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with modding. I can understand why some companies want to thwart modding for online games. But there's no reason to do that with single player.
Well when people mod Rockstar will find out and put a stop to it, it’s that simple, and it can cause people to get banned.

Just FYI there's an official torrent to the mod, the HD texture pack for the mod, and the version of it for FiveM. I can't link it here obviously but it's very easy to find.

Yeah can't imagine how this hurts either game, it's not like you can play 4 in the engine anyways it's just the world tacked on really. It's too bad because 4 really deserved better. An updated version with the better controls and etc of 5 that's complete with the dlcs AND can be easily modded. No separate launchers for each DLC either, it's all just locked into the main story progress where it makes sense. Last replay of 4 for me had to use dx9 for best performance, dxvk didn't improve it for me and had to use v107 for ease of mods too, ie no dlcs.
