DirectX & OpenGL catching up with Mantle, will offer low-level access to reduce draw overhead

Huge news PC gamers. While Nvidia has not commented yet on supporting Mantle, it appears that both DirectX and OpenGL will be catching up with AMD’s API. According to some slideshows from this year’s GDC, both DirectX and OpenGL will start offering low-level access in order to reduce draw overhead. This obviously translates to performance gains on older CPUs, something that will definitely excite PC gamers. AMD Catalyst 14.2 Beta Released – THIEF Performance Improvements, BF4 Mantle Multi-GPU Support

Battlefield 4 – New PC Update Brings General Stability Improvements, Fixes Sound Loop Bug

DICE has just rolled out a new update for the PC version of Battlefield 4 that brings general stability improvements and fixes that annoying sound loop issue. And while there is no mention of any Mantle improvements, AMD will release today a new set of drivers that might bring an additional performance boost under this API. Vector Thrust Announced – New Arcade Flight Game with Cell-Shaded Visuals

Iceberg Interactive TimeSymmetry officially announced today their arcade flight game with simulation elements called Vector Thrust. Vector Trust is coming Q2 this year to PC on Steam and is described as a fast-paced, cel-shaded, combat flying game that offers an extensive variety of game modes to choose from, with quick, action-oriented instant play, and the option to experience a deep, story-based campaign. Oxide Games, AMD, and NVIDIA will Present at GDC 2014 the Nitrous Engine and the Future of Real-time Graphics

Oxide Games has announced that it will be partnering with AMD and NVIDIA to examine the future of video games. During GDC 2014, Oxide Games will offer two presentations. The first talk will explain how to get the best use out of AMD’s Mantle API, with explanations of how the Nitrous engine achieves its goals while the second discussion with NVIDIA will explain how modern multi-core CPUs and GPUs open up new ways of designing games for the latest generation of consoles and PCs.
