Ah, it’s that time of year again. 2013 was a good year, full of surprises. It was also the year we got our first ‘next-gen’ titles, so it’s time now to see which are the top 10 PC optimized games of 2013. Before beginning, let us be crystal clear on this; we are not judging their gameplay mechanics. No no no no. We’re focusing on their tech side. This year we’ve also included the biggest disappointments, as well as some honorable mentions. So, let’s take a look at our list, shall we?
We are currently in the process of writing our ‘Top 10 PC Optimized Games of 2013’ article and – as you may have guessed – we are replaying almost all games with their latest patches in order to find out whether developers have fixed/addressed anything at all. One of these games is Metro: Last Light and as we’ve already said in our ‘Performance Analysis’ article, 4A GAmes’ FPS suffers from a number of low-res textures. So, time to find out whether or not we can boost the game’s visuals via SweetFX.
Metro: Last Light is considered one of the best looking games of 2013 on the PC. CRYENGINE is also considered one of the best game engines of 2013. So what happens when you combine these two? Well, time to find out. Polycount’s member ‘gutty333′ has created an environment in CRYENGINE that is based on 4A Games’ title. This fan-made environment (do note that it’s made by a single man and not a whole studio) can give us an idea of what Metro: Last Light could look like in CRYENGINE. We’ve also included some shots from the works of CRYENGINE modders andi_bigglesworth, DCE_LeVeRs231, goa3dAnimations, Maximum-Dev, MetalHeartGR, ReVan1199 and squall_dk. Enjoy!
