In July 2026, we informed you about two HD texture packs for the GameCube versions of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Return of the King. Back then, emulating those games with these packs was the best way to play them. But not anymore. PC gamers can now play both games on their PCs natively.

Let’s start with the unofficial PC port of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Our reader ‘Gumpolas’ has been working on this for a while. Its latest version has 33 extra languages for all game text, subtitles, and menus.

You can set the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 32:9, and you can raise its internal resolution up to 12x. Cutscenes now support widescreen, and menus fill the screen.

The port supports Direct3D 11, Vulkan, and OpenGL. You can also use anti-aliasing, HD Textures, and color and light settings. Moreover, you can choose to play at 30 FPS, just like on Xbox, or you can unlock the framerate.

The PC port also adds full mouse and keyboard support. You can change every key, aim with the mouse, and use a walk key. The mouse also works in all menus. The PC port supports Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch Pro pads, plus other gamepads. Rumble and matching button prompts are also included.

Finally, you can add the HUD from the ECTS 2002 demo, orange health items, and seven extra heroes.

If you’re planning to only play Two Towers, I suggest using this PC port. You can go ahead and download it from here.

For The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, you can use this unofficial PC port. Created by Shagg88, Athelas is a free, unofficial launcher for three Lord of the Rings games. These are the Xbox version of The Two Towers, the PC version of The Return of the King, and the Xbox version of The Return of the King.

Athelas supports framerates up to 240 FPS. It also supports keyboard and mouse, and it has support for custom HD Texture Packs. It supports widescreen, co-op, anti-aliasing, texture filtering, sharpening, and more.

You can go ahead and download it from here. If you are planning to play both The Two Towers and The Return of the King, this is most likely the easiest way to play them.

In case you are into projects like these, you can also download the unofficial PC ports of Mario Kart Wii, Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Mario Strikers.

You can also play The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Majora’s Mask, Perfect Dark, Call of Duty 3, and Jak & Daxter.
