Doom 3 HD Mod Released

Well looky here, we got us a new Doom 3 mod. Doom 3 HD Mod is a promising graphical mod that is essential to pretty much every Doom 3 fan. This mod features 50% of in-game textures that are replaced with high resolution textures – up to 2048x2048px – while the rest have increased contrast and roughness, NPC models with high-poly analogues, weapons and other models of contrast and detail in increased capacity, widescreen support, increased number of shadows that are being casted by the game’s locations, new special effects like explosions, strikes of bullets, blood stains, as well as new effects engine, such as anti-aliasing of reflections, HDR, motion blur, soft shadows and other small, juicy, details.  Continue reading Doom 3 HD Mod Released

What if Quake was done today

Now that’s hilarious. We all know how most FPS games got dumbed down over the course of the past few years but watching a classic fast-paced FPS, like Quake, being remade by today’s standards is funny as hell. Simple graphics options, slow-paced gameplay, pop-up menus, enormous target icon and childish boss battles are re-imagined with a sense of humor. Doom 3 source code packaged, tested and releasing in the coming days

Great news for everyone as John Carmack informed us – via its Twitter account – that Doom 3’s source code is packaged and fully tested. iD Software is now waiting on the final lawyer clearance and the package will then get released. This basically means that the source code will come out in the coming days and we can’t wait to see what the modding and indie developers will come up with. This is what a next-generation version of Quake 3: Arena could look like

3D artist Mark Harrington went ahead and created what could be easily mistaken with a next-generation version of Quake 3: Arena. Mark used Maya ZBrush to create Quake 3: Arena’s character – Orb – and the texturing was all polypainting. After creating the main character, Mark did the UV’s with UV Master and then GoZ’d everything into Maya for rendering. Bethesda reassures that Doom 4 won’t be affected by RAGE’s launch and is not “indefinitely postponed”

A rumor appeared this morning, stating that Doom 4 is “indefinitely postponed” due to RAGE’s disappointing launch. Everyone was shocked and a bit depressed with how the mighty have fallen. Moreover, those who were looking forward to Doom 4 got a bit worried as there was a possibility that it would get canceled. Imagine that, a disappointing launch of a new IP destroying your reputation and your future plans. Ouch. Doom3: Mars City Security Mod comes with Time-Of-Day Cycle and CoOperative Gameplay

Mars City Security is a Doom 3 mod that adds a CoOp mode and promises to take Doom3’s Coop experience to the next Generation and beyond. This mod is developed by Scared Pixel Studios and doesn’t have any release date as of yet. However, the team has been posting updates about its progress and they’ve just announced today the implementation of a fully multiplayer compatible time of day system for the MCS gametype “DemonWars”. John Carmack crashes PC gamers’ hopes for a High-Resolution Texture Pack on RAGE

You’ve probably already heard of a high resolution texture pack for RAGE was rumored to get released after its official launch. This rumored texture pack was supposed to be 150GB in size and would update the game’s low-res textures with some proper, high-res ones. Well, this is not gonna happen as John Carmack admited that the source textures are almost the same as the ones that are currently used in RAGE PC. RAGE – John Carmack promises that the next patch will alleviate the blurry textures in Rage PC

Great news for PC gamers as the man himself has stated a few minutes ago that the upcoming patch of RAGE will resolve all texture bluriness. As John Carmack tweeted, the new update for RAGE will include a bicubic-upsample plus a detail texture option that will eventually help alleviate the blurry textures in Rage. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 meets Doom

Have you ever wondered of what would happen if you could mix together Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 with Doom? Well, time to find out. This following video is in fact from a real Doom mod – called Real Guns Advanced 2 – that was released for iD’s little baby a while ago and as you can see, the similarities with Modern Warfare 2 are incredible.
