During GDC Europe 2013, Pierre Donzallaz talked about the lighting techniques that have been used in Crysis 3, and shared some screenshots, showcasing what Crytek’s artists have achieved. Below, you can find some truly amazing nature images, showcasing what developers may achieve – or even surpass – with next-gen titles. In addition, we bring you three videos. The first one shows off the ragdoll physics of Project Crynosaurs’ Triceraptors, while the second is the first trailer of Pixar’s “UP” animated movie recreated in CryEngine 3 (created by Mazila). The highlight of this week is Darfid’s indoor environment and walid-payne’s outdoor environment; two environments that reminded us of The Last Of Us and Outlaws. Darfid’s environment seems to be based on the upcoming PS4 game, The Last Of Us, while walid-payne’s environment looks similar to the levels found on Lucas Arts’ classic FPS, Outlaws. In addition, we’ve featured a video from modder ‘para vach’ that showcases a ‘fake’ dynamic cloud system. The highlight of this week is the Mafia and the countryside shots. 3D artist Insulaner and his friends have created a next-gen version of Mafia (for Polygon’s Escape contest) that looks spectacular. Team Caravan, on the other hand, created a countryside that reminded us of Fallout, proving that Crytek’s proprietary engine is capable of offering truly next-generation visuals. As we can see, some of the modders tried to get as close to the real water as possible. CryEngine 3 modders were put to the test this week. A member of CryDev posted a real grass image, and a number of modders decided to recreate it in CryEngine 3. Modder the_grim was the first who posted a recreation of it, and we have to say that the modder came pretty close to the real thing. Moreover, modders AkiRa, Benkeeling, darkchazz, EliteGhost, InspiredMind, maxmead, PogoP, scotthomer and Zepic have showcased some of their work-in-progress projects. Enjoy!
