I know, I know, you read that ‘new in-game footage’ line and were so excited that did not pay attention to the tech-thing, right? Well, there was a reason we included the word ‘tech’, as this is simply a timelapse video from GTA V. In other words, this can be considered as a trailer that showcases what the engine will be able to offer us and nothing more. Though there is still no word about a PC version of GTA V, word has it that GTA V PC might get unveiled during Take Two’s upcoming investor call. Until then, though, enjoy the video! Nordic Games has just unveiled that it has acquired the IP rights of Darksiders, Red Faction and MX vs ATV from THQ. This is great news as a new Darksiders game seems now possible. PhysX.info showcased a new fluid simulation algorithm called Position Based Fluids. We’ve criticized PhysX effects in the past, but this new algorithm sports the best real-time fluids (aka water) we’ve ever seen. It’s no stretch to say that this digital water comes close to the real deal, which is a big accomplishment. It is said that more details on this a new technique will be available later on, in a SIGGRAPH 2013 paper. Currently there are no games taking advantage of this technique, so here is hoping that developers will start using both PhysX 3.0 and the latest techniques that have been introduced to the latest PhysX builds (this new fluid simulation technique will be added in future versions of PhysX SDK or APEX modules). According to YouTube’s ‘Zogrim’ who uploaded the video, a GTX580 was able to handle both sim (~ 130k particles) and rendering at 30 fps. Enjoy!
