Top 10 PC Optimized Games of 2012

2012
It’s that time of year again. 2013 is almost upon us and promises to be a great year. Well, that is if the Mayan prediction was not accurate enough and the world doesn’t end tomorrow (though we all know that we’ll be just fine and nothing ‘bad’ will happen). So, our dear readers, we’re presenting you our Top10 most optimized PC games of 2012. Before starting, let us tell you that our Top10 is based on those games’ performance under DX9 and DX10. DX11 did not take off in 2012, and that’s why we did not focus on it. However, our GTX690 will serve us well in 2013, so rest assured that our upcoming Performance Analyses will also cover this API. The Darkness II PC Performance Analysis

The Darkness II has just been released on the PC, and it’s time to see how Digital Extremes’ little baby performs on our beloved platform. Some of you might be initially disappointed with the fact that the game is not developed by Starbreeze, developers of the first part, but from what we’ve seen so far, The Darkness II performs amazingly good on a lot of PCs and is quite friendly to low-end PC configurations. This is not surprising at all as the game uses Digital Extremes’ in-house engine, the Evolution Engine, that was used to Dark Sector, a third-person  game that was also well optimized. The Darkness 2 – Digital Extremes is looking into a FOV option for the PC version

Dear developers and publishers, start taking notes; Field of View is really important to all PC gamers. Yes, your game might look awesome in consoles and on TV’s, but on a PC monitor, it does not. Part of that is due to the distance between the gamer and the TV/monitor. That distance is reduced when gaming on a PC – that is not hooked up on a HDTV – and a low FOV setting can cause headaches to a lot of your customers. We get it, a small FOV is a clever way to gain more performance from current-generation consoles but there should always be an option for it in the PC version of your games.
