The secret move that has become fundamental to the design of fighting games

Coin-up games were the rage back then, in 1987 a secret move was discovered, and its impact is still being felt to this day. The first Street Fighter was the first competitive fighting game ever produced by Capcom. The amount of coins fed to the arcades back then must be astronomical.

In the War Between Xbox One & PS4, PC Gamers Win

While E3 has typically been a spectacle its shine had seemed to fade. Over the past few years I’d argued that E3 contained few noteworthy announcements, even if one were to look at it through the lens and perspective of a console gamer — the demographic the convention has historically focused on. Street Fighter meets Plants vs Zombies In This Amazing Video Mashup

street fighter vs plants vs zombies

YouTube’s member ‘NicksplosionFX’ has shared this amazing mashup video between Street Fighter and Plants vs Zombies. And you know what? I’d love to see such a retro mashup between these two franchises as it would be really interesting and – from the looks of this video – entertaining. Kudos to our reader ‘Dimitris Kaparos’ for spotting it. And since we love MK, we’ve also included an older mashup from NicksplosionFX that pits Double Dragon against MK. Enjoy! Cat Fighter is a SF parody featuring some lovely, cute and fierce cats

CatFighterII
Cats cats cats. Everybody seems to love cats. And everybody loves Street Fighter II. So what happens when you mashup these two together? Well, Cat Fighter is obviously the answer to that question. ThePetCollective has posted this amazing parody for Capcom’s fighting game, Street Fighter II, in which we get to see two cats duke it out. This parody reminded us of the Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter parodies for Jean Claude Van Damme’s movies, therefore we decided to also include them below. Kudos to our reader ‘KenHatchi’ for informing us. Enjoy! Continue reading Cat Fighter is a SF parody featuring some lovely, cute and fierce cats

Mortal Kombat vs Street Fighter Live Action Short – Scorpion vs Ryu

Ah yes, MK vs SF is the crossover we’ve been waiting for. And although we’ve seen a couple of fan-made animations that put SF characters against the MK ones, it seems unlikely we’ll ever get such a game. Good news then that there have been a couple of fan films that tried to satisfy our desire for such a crossover. So, today we bring you a new live action short film, directed by Chris Mark, that puts Scorpion against Ryu. The great thing here is that you can choose the winner of this fight at the end of it, as this is an interactive film. Enjoy! Guile’s theme from Street Fighter 2 on violin

Street Fighter has some of the most memorable themes. Ken’s theme is a rock solid track, while Ryu’s is all about relaxing. And who can forget Guile’s theme? Once you hear this theme, it gets stuck in your head for hours. Just look around and you will see lots of videos featuring this particular theme as… well… it pretty much goes with everything. Naturally, a lot of people requested Lara to give it a shot. Who is Lara you ask? Lara is a talented girl that made covers for lots of videogames. What’s really great about Lara also is that she plays the songs by ear as there aren’t any sheets from most videogame tunes. And since we love Ken’s theme, we decided to also include the main menu theme from the HD remake of SSF2T. Enjoy! Continue reading Guile’s theme from Street Fighter 2 on violin

Could Mortal Kombat vs Street Fighter happen? Ed Boon drops a teaser on his Twitter

We do know that a lot of gamers have been dreaming for a crossover between Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter. Ed Boon has expressed his desire for something like that, as well as Yoshinori Ono. Although something like that is quite difficult due to MK’s fatalities and general brutality – and the fact that most SF characters are not as agressive as those of MK – there is still hope.
