Let me start by saying that Starbreeze is a talented studio. After the amazing Chronicles of Riddick and the first Darkness game, we were expecting big things from them. However, something is really off with their latest games. The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena was not something special and Syndicate feels like a generic FPS that basically mixes Deus Ex: Human Revolution’s style and FEAR’s combat mechanics. But we are not here to judge its gameplay. And ironically, although the game feels like a big let down, its game engine is awesome and performs great on the PC. BioWare and Electronic Arts have released the launch trailer of Mass Effect 3. Mass Effect 3 thrusts players into an all-out war to save the galaxy from an ancient alien race known as the Reapers. Players will assume the role of Commander Shepard, a war-torn veteran who’s willing to do whatever it takes to eliminate this nearly unstoppable foe. EA, 38 Studios, and Big Huge Games unveiled The Legend of Dead Kel, the first downloadable content (DLC) pack for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, the critically acclaimed open-world action role-playing game. Featuring a mysterious tale of intrigue, danger and dark magic on the island of Gallows End, players will encounter shadowy characters and new enemies, and will experience a host of new side quests, treacherous battles and exciting new challenges. The Legend of Dead Kel gives players access to Gallows End, a gigantic new continent to explore where players claim ownership of a vast personal estate and experience new weapons, Twists of Fate and other perks against new enemies. I tell you, this is too good to pass by. YouTube’s member ‘myST4SH’ has posted a hilarious jet video of Battlefield 3. myST4SH was on dogfight when his plane got a lot of damage. The player tried to avoid exploding and in a risky attempt, he crashed his plane into some trees. To his surprise, his plane didn’t explode, therefore he decided to repair it. What comes after that is funny as hell, and that’s mainly due to the captions and music that myST4SH used. Now this is precisely why Battlefield 3 is so great. We’re preparing a Performance Analysis for Syndicate but let’s get one thing straight; the bloom effects are overdone and there is no way to disable them. Seriously, my eyes hurt after watching some of the in-game screenshots that I’ve captured and that says a lot. Starbreeze went nuts with it and luckily for you, there is a temporary workaround to get rid of those flashy gimmick effects. A few months ago, a team recreated the Battlefield 2 intro in Battlefield 3. Naturally, the team felt the need to keep it up and we are happy to report that they have recreated the Battlefield 1942 Intro in Battlefield 3. CryEngine 3 never ceases to amaze us. Crytek has just released the latest 3.3.9 version of their SDK and as you’d expect, some modders decided to experiment with it. Be advised though: lights are not rendered into the cubemaps with this new version of CryEngine 3’s SDK and both supersampling & customres are not working. Hopefully Crytek will release a hotfix in the coming days. Good news for all Battlefield 3 fans as DICE and Electronic Arts are possibly working on a new DLC for Battlefield 3. Although the companies have not revealed any new info about it, they have stated that they are playtesting some impressive things in the Studio. You know what? I love Crytek. Yeah, the company screwed us with the initial release of Crysis 2 but since then, we’ve been getting a lot of support and love. Earlier yesterday, we reported that CryEngine 3.3.9 SDK was available and today, we bring you a video that shows off the new changes made to Crytek’s latest SDK tool. What’s also interesting is that the company showcases in this video an ‘Angry Birds’ clone while showing off the engine’s new Flograph Breakpoints. The new SDK is available for download right now.
