Boom: Interceptor Entertainment Has Acquired Apogee/3D Realms [UPDATE]

Now this is getting really interesting. Interceptor Entertainment was ready to announce a new Duke Nukem game when Gearbox filed a lawsuit against it and 3D Realms. And while we’re still waiting to find out what will happen with Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction, Interceptor’s Owner, Game Director and CEO announced that his company has acquired both Apogee and 3D Realms. Back in October 2010, we found out about a small team of enthusiasts who were working on a freeware remake of Duke Nukem 3D that would be powered by Unreal Engine 3. That small team was no other than Interceptor, the company behind Rise of the Triad’s remake. As with Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded, Rise of the Triad’s remake is powered by Unreal Engine 3, therefore we expected a pretty solid PC game. Apogee Software and Interceptor Entertainment’s much anticipated re-make of Rise of the Triad will be available July 31st for $14.99. Beginning today, Rise of the Triad’s pre-orders come with a free version of the Apogee Throwback Pack that is available for immediate download.  The Apogee Throwback Pack is a collection that includes the original classic Rise of the Triad: Dark War  and Extreme Rise of the Triad expansion pack, as well as Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold and Blake Stone: Planet Strike. 3D Realms/Apogee Software file lawsuit against Gearbox Software

And here we go. Apogee Software and 3D Realms released a press released in which they claimed that Gearbox Software owes Apogee more than $2 million in unpaid royalties and advance payments after Gearbox bought rights related to Apogee’s “Duke Nukem” video game, according to a breach of contract suit filed Friday in Texas state court.
