Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Patriots – Target footage is disappointing to say the least

A few days ago, we posted an editorial about how all those dreadful scripted events are killing the gaming experience. Seems that we should had also added all those annoying QTEs that were used heavily in God of War. These QTEs are not immersive and have no place in modern-day games as they can be easily replaced by clever, real-time, gameplay ideas. Seriously developers, we are not watching movies. We are playing games and this is definitely not the right way to create dramatic or cinematic scenes. An adventure game like Heavy Rain can get away with this. But the sequel to one of the best tactical FPS games to be filled with QTEs? Seriously now Ubisoft? Oh the horror. Editorial – Scripted events are killing the gaming experience

Oh boy, here we go again with the scripted events. I’m pretty sure you’ve heard it before that those dreadful scripted events, which are included in most modern-day titles, are killing the whole gaming experience. There is a lot of argue about it, and to be honest, both sides are right. On one hand, scripted events give a cinematic feel, a more intense – albeit ‘fake’ – experience that could not be achieved with any other way. On the other hand, however, these same scripted events are hurting the dynamic nature of the games. Games are transforming into movies, meaning that the players are simply attending instead of actually playing them. Continue reading Editorial – Scripted events are killing the gaming experience

How Battlefield 3 managed to steal Modern Warfare 3’s thunder

It’s really funny how things turned out for DICE and Infinity Ward/Sledgehammer. Both companies are talented and have been with us for quite some time. It wasn’t untill recently though when gamers found out the first studio, mainly due to its console version of Battlefield called, Bad Company. In fact… the same can be said about Infinity Ward too since their roots can be found on the PC with the creation of the first Call of Duty game. The only difference is that they moved to consoles way before DICE did. Continue reading How Battlefield 3 managed to steal Modern Warfare 3’s thunder

Crysis 2 – The Way It Was Meant To Be… Partially

Let’s get one thing straight from the beginning. I was among those that criticized Crytek’s decision to release a dumbed down version of Crysis 2 to the PC. As I wrote in my ‘How Crytek doomed Crysis 2’s PC version’ article for another publication, Crytek had failed to release a proper PC version of Crysis 2 and didn’t include any DX11 support, modding tools, advanced graphics options or an 64bit executable file. Fast forward some months and here we are today with most of those issues addressed/fixed. Continue reading Crysis 2 – The Way It Was Meant To Be… Partially
