AMD Catalyst 13.4 Released, Performance Improvements In Several Games Noted

AMD has officially released a new set of drivers for its GPUs. AMD’s Catalyst 13.4 come with support for AMD Radeon HD7790 and AMD Radeon HD 7990, and feature optimizations to improve performance in Far Cry 3, Crysis 3, and 3DMark. In addition, there are significant latency performance improvements in Skyrim, Boderlands 2, Guild Wars 2, Tomb Raider and Hitman Absolution. Now this is great. Almost two weeks ago, Nvidia claimed that it was not worth investing on consoles and that was precisely why they did not bother with PS4 and X720. As Tony Tamasi, Senior VP of content and technology at Nvidia, stated back then, Nvidia came to the conclusion that it didn’t want to do the business at the price Sony was willing to pay. And as you’d expect, AMD decided to stand up and face Nvidia, claiming that they were able to offer PS4 the hardware Nvidia couldn’t. We are pretty sure that a lot of gamers were impressed – graphically – with what DICE has showcased yesterday. Even though we knew that Battlefield 4 ran on the PC, we did not have any information about the specifications behind the PC system that was used. Thankfully, AMD has unveiled that its upcoming dual-GPU card, HD 7990, codenamed ‘Malta’ was used to demonstrate Battlefield 4. AMD Catalyst 13.3 Beta Driver Released

AMD has released a new set of beta drivers for its graphics cards. According to its key release notes, AMD’s Catalyst 13.3 Beta come with improved performance on both SimCity and Far Cry 3. AMD teases ‘super cool, super-secret project’ with these two screenshots

It appears that AMD has been up to something lately, as the red team teased today a ‘super-secret project’ that is said to be ‘super cool’. Although AMD could not reveal much, it released two Work-In-Progress screenshots from that project that can be viewed below. AMD will unveil more information about this project in the coming weeks. AMD TressFX Technology Unveiled, To Be Featured In Tomb Raider [UPDATE]

As promised, AMD has unveiled its TressFX technology today and as we suspected, this new tech will be used in Crystal Dynamics’ upcoming Tomb Raider game. AMD’s TressFX is a hair technology and the company has released some before/after screenshots from Tomb Raider to show off what can be achieved with it. AMD teases tressfx: “a new frontier of realism in PC gaming”

AMD has posted an interesting image on its blog. According to this image, a new feature will be unveiled on March February 26th. This feature will be called tressfx and is said to be a new frontier of realism in PC gaming. The aforementioned image shows a girl (or more importantly her hair), suggesting that this could very well be AMD’s answer to Nvidia’s PhysX technology.
