Asteroids: Outpost – Now Available On Steam Early Access, New Screenshots Released

Atari today announced Early Access availability for Asteroids: Outpost. The sandbox, open world, multiplayer shooter is a reboot of the 1979 arcade classic, and it’s definitely not what you’d expect from an Asteroids game. DX12 – Multi-Threading Shadow Map Rendering Performance Boost, Can Be Applied to Existing Engines

At this year’s GDC, Kuba Cupisz and Kasper Engelstoft, graphics programmers at Unity Technologies, talked about Unity 5 and DX12. Now we all know that DX12 is going to be big, however we don’t know how developers will take advantage of it. Well, according to Unity’s programmers, DX12 can be used for multi-threading shadow map rendering as it can significantly boost performance and can be applied in all existing engines. Super Mario 64 – First Level Recreated in Unity Engine, Playable in Your Browser

Roystan Ross has recreated the first level of Super Mario 64 in the Unity Engine, and has released it for free to everyone. Yeap, you can actually play this recreation, something that is undoubtedly cool. What’s even more amazing is that this level is playable in your browser, meaning that you won’t have to download anything at all (though there is still an option for a desktop version in case you want one). Pillars of Eternity Is Now Available

Obsidian Entertainment and Paradox Interactive today released Pillars of Eternity, the role-playing game (RPG) that was funded by over 70 thousand backers more than two years ago. Pillars of Eternity, created in the spirit of the classic Infinity Engine titles like Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale, and crafted by Obsidian with careful attention to fan and backer feedback, is now available for PC, Mac, and Linux. Stardock announced today that the fifth beta build for Galactic Civilizations III is now available, adding much-requested features to Stardock’s epic sci-fi 4X. Halo Online Revealed – Free-To-Play FPS Exclusively for the PC, Powered by Reworked Halo 3 Engine

Syber Interactive Studio and publisher Innova revealed today a free-to-play multiplayer first-person shooter based on the Halo franchise, called Halo Online. Halo Online will be coming exclusively on the PC, is powered by a reworked version of the Halo 3 Engine, and will be coming to Russia (though a European release is not excluded as of yet). Team 21 has informed us about a spiritual successor to the old-school hardcore RPG/Dungeon Crawler masterpieces, called Dungeons of Aledorn. Dungeons of Aledorn combines a tactical combat system and a first person view in order to explore its world, and has a Kickstarter campaign that ends in 16 days. Melancholy Republic – 16bit JRPG That Promises to Be A “Heartbreaking Tragedy”

Kelly McGuire has informed us about a JRPG she’s been working on – as a co-writer and editor – called Melancholy Republic. Melancholy Republic is being developed by Cloud Runner Studios, aims to be a 16-bit JRPG cinematic story driven game, and there is a Kickstarter campaign for it that ends in 16 days (aiming to raise £15K in total).
