Here is an hour of gameplay from an unofficial port of System Shock 2 in Unreal Engine 5

The Informal Synthetic Orchestra has shared a video, showcasing one hour of gameplay footage from an unofficial port of System Shock 2 in Unreal Engine 5. By using Unreal Engine 5, System Shock 2 can now take advantage of its Lumen tech. As such, there isn’t any baking of lightmaps or manually placed lighting. Instead, the game now uses emissive materials, global/indirect illumination and bounce lighting. Now here is a pleasant surprise. Night Dive Studios has released a new patch for System Shock 2 that comes with various improvements and modernisations, as well as some fixes. This patch is only available for the Windows version of the game, however Mac and Linux will receive it really soon. System Shock fans, we’ve got some good and some bad news for you today. The good news is that ‘Mark Valentine’ has released his assets for the Source Engine remake of System Shock 2. The bad news is that Valentine has stopped working on this port, meaning that this project is – more or less – cancelled. It is very hard to be successful and recognized in today’s gaming market. There are hundreds of new titles released each and every year, and while most of them are as mediocre as they can get, there are still some games / franchises that should not be forgotten. A lot of young gamers who came in for fun are running in circles, hunting for games with the best graphics and the best ‘movie feel.’ While graphics and ‘overall feel’ are important, there is nothing more important in games than their gameplay. In this article I will look into some titles that deserve to be remembered. Most of them will be old, and perhaps you may have never played them. My goal with this article is to show you that age and graphics are irrelevant to good gameplay mechanics. After all, there is nothing quite like the following games.
