Modder ‘maikel’ has released a new CryEngine 3 video that shows off what ‘natural lighting’ would look like in a video-game. The modder has been looking at how light works in the real world and how this can be translated in a game engine and his research is designed to answer: a) How does direct light, indirect light and atmospheric effects work in the real world and b) How can this be translated into a game engine. Even though the 1.1.1 patch has gone live yesterday, BioWare is already testing the new, upcoming 1.1.2 patch and has revealed the changes that were made to it. This patch is currently available on the public test servers and comes with fixes and improvements that have been made to the game’s classes that wield the Force. BioWare has unveiled today the cast for 2012’s first blockbuster game, Mass Effect 3. The ensemble will see the return of fan favorites, including Martin Sheen as the Illusive Man, Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale as Male and Female Shepard and will introduce Freddie Prinze, Jr. as James Vega, a marine who will help Commander Shepard take Earth back. GDC2012 starts in almost 5 weeks and DICE’s rendering architect, Johan Andersson, has revealed that DICE will attend and he will talk about the terrain system in Frostbite 2 as it was applied in Battlefield 3. According to GDC’s schedule, session is partitioned into three parts. The first part consists the scalability aspects, while the second will be focussed towards workflow aspects and describe how DICE has achieved full in-game realtime editing.
