Nvidia’s GeForce 337.50 Beta Are Great But Not Equivalent To AMD’s Mantle Performance Boost

Nvidia today released its latest beta driver for its graphics cards. According to their release notes, the GeForce 337.50 Beta drivers pack key DirectX optimizations which result in reduced game-loading times and significant performance increases across a wide variety of games. Moreover, these gains were said to be noticed in CPU bound titles, therefore we decided to give these drivers a test. The end result pleased us but the performance boost is not as good as the one witnessed with AMD’s Mantle. Radeon R9 290Xtreme Announced, New 16GB DDR5 Dual-GPU To Rival Nvidia’s Titan Z, Will Cost $3399

AMD has just announced a new high-end GPU that will rival Nvidia’s recently announced dual-card, Titan Z. According to the red team, the card will pack 16GB of DDR5, 6156 cores, and two overclocked Hawaii XT chips. Clearly this GPU will be a top high-end product, however it comes with insane PSU requirements and price. Avalanche Details “Number of ROPs” Differences Between Radeon HD7970 and Next-Gen Consoles

During this year’s GDC, Emil Persson – Head of Research at Avalanche Studios – talked about low-level shader optimization for both next-gen consoles and DX11. Most of these will sound like mumbo jumbo to you, but Emil’s presentation has been posted online and is something that will benefit some of you (provided you are game developers). AMD’s Mantle Developer Beta Program Begins This April, Will Go Public Afterwards

During GDC 2014, it has been revealed that AMD’s Mantle program for developers will begin this April. According to the following slide, Mantle’s Beta SDK website will be opening this April. The catch here is that access to it will be limited to a select few. In short, don’t expect small indie developers to get their hands on it. Still, the good news is that after that beta program, Mantle will be available to everyone. Continue reading AMD’s Mantle Developer Beta Program Begins This April, Will Go Public Afterwards

AMD Catalyst 14.3 Beta V1.0 Driver Released, Adds THIEF Mantle & TrueAudio Support

AMD has released a new beta driver for its graphics cards. According to its changelog, this new driver adds support for AMD Mantle and AMD True Audio in THIEF, and improves stuttering observed in CrossFire mode. Obviously, you will also need THIEF’s latest update (that will release later today) in order to run the game via the Mantle API. DirectX & OpenGL catching up with Mantle, will offer low-level access to reduce draw overhead

Huge news PC gamers. While Nvidia has not commented yet on supporting Mantle, it appears that both DirectX and OpenGL will be catching up with AMD’s API. According to some slideshows from this year’s GDC, both DirectX and OpenGL will start offering low-level access in order to reduce draw overhead. This obviously translates to performance gains on older CPUs, something that will definitely excite PC gamers.
