Capcom has announced that its latest version of Street Fighter IV, Ultra Street Fighter IV, will hit arcades in Japan in April 2014, with the digital download versions for North American and European consoles coming soon after. Our reader ‘ihatedisqus3’ has also informed us about a new path tracer engine called Arauna2. Arauna2 is the successor to the CPU-based Arauna real-time ray tracer. It uses GPU path tracing to render scenes with global illumination and depth of field, at a speed that enables real-time previewing: during camera movement, images are noisy, but as soon as the camera stands still, the final image starts to converge. Okay, I’m pretty sure that both AMD and DICE have been misleading people on purpose these past weeks regarding Mantle. That, or they decided to ditch Mantle’s GCN-architecture requirement, something that seems highly unlikely. During AMD’s Developer Summit, Johan Andersson confirmed that Mantle is not tied to AMD’s GCN architecture, meaning that there isn’t such requirement.
