Modder ‘EgrLapko’ has released a new cool mod for The Witcher 3 Remastered that adds true volumetric lighting to the game. This mod can greatly improve the game’s image quality, even when using Ray Tracing or Path Tracing. So, let’s take a closer look at it.
This mod uses the game’s own shadows to make light shine through the fog. You can see sunbeams pass through arches, bridges, trees, and city streets. Areas in the shade also look darker, just as they would in real life.
Best of all, these are real light shafts, not just a screen filter. They follow the shadows in the game. This means they line up with trees, towers, fences, and other objects. The mod also keeps the image clear. Instead of adding too much glare, it darkens the fog in shaded areas. This helps keep the game’s look and contrast.
The mod also works on its own. It reads the weather and time of day as you play. You get light haze at noon, warm sunbeams at sunset, and soft moonlight at night. The effect is also very weak when it rains. You do not need to change any settings.
It also works with other fog mods, such as Fog Remastered. If another mod changes the game’s fog, the light will follow those changes. As I said, it’s also compatible with the game’s own Ray Tracing and Path Tracing. Moreover, it works with DLSS and Frame Generation.
Fires and lights also get their own effects. Torches, campfires, and lanterns light up the fog around them. They even keep their own warm colors. The mod also balances their light. This means large fires will not blind you, while small lights will still be easy to see. Even the torch in Geralt’s hand works.
Another nice touch is how the mod blends with the game. It adds its effects before the game’s own bloom and tone mapping. This helps the new light look like part of the game’s world.
Best of all, the mod has a very small cost to speed. It takes about half a millisecond per frame with its default settings. So, you can enjoy better fog and light without a big hit to performance.

A lot of modders are currently bringing their mods to the remastered version. However, if you are still playing the Next-Gen version, you can try some of the following mods.
For instance, there is a really cool first-person mod. The Characters Reworked Project is another interesting mod that improves the quality of over 100 characters. Let’s also not forget this mod that lets you kill most in-game NPCs. Then we have this mod that overhauls the game’s combat with better animations, better targeting, and new dodging mechanics.
In July 2024, we shared mods that restored the boat races and added 15 new quests. A modder has also restored the reputation system that CDPR cut from the game. Plus, there is a cool fan expansion, based on the original book “The Last Wish”. Then, in February 2026, a modder shared a DLC-sized expansion mod that added a new questline for Ciri and a new region to explore. Another DLC-sized fan expansion is Dawn Over Kovir. TW3 fans should also try the demo for The WAR Project. The WAR Project is a massive cut content recreation project aimed at realising the vision for a long-forgotten questline, commonly known as the Plague Questline.
In December 2023, we shared this mod that restores content that was cut from all previous The Witcher games. Then, in February 2024, we shared a mod that attempted to remove the fake “hero” light from the game’s cut-scenes. There is also this mod that allows you to explore a part of the world from the first The Witcher game in TW3. Oh, and don’t forget this mod that allows you to ride a Griffin. Or how about this Sekiro-inspired combat mod?
Another must-have mod is The Witcher 3 Online. With this mod, players can join servers and play together with friends. You can customize your character with Custom Player Characters and relax in taverns using the Chill Out feature. You can also chat with other players, use emotes, and roleplay with strangers. Best of all, you can experience the full story of Geralt and Ciri from beginning to end, all while exploring the world of The Witcher with other players.
The mods that are 100% compatible with The Witcher 3 Remastered are the following ones. Witcher 3 Quests Extended adds 18 new playable quests to the game. Witcher’s Work – Procedurally Generated Contracts adds new procedurally generated contracts to the game. We also have this mod that makes movement and combat more responsive. Finally, this mod fixes nearly 6,000 bugs. It includes more than 2,200 bug fixes and over 2,000 placement fixes. It also restores cut content, as well as around 120 NPCs and characters.
Have fun!
Kudos to our reader ‘Psycho’ for bringing this to our attention!
