The free-to-play market has grown 28% year-over-year, PUBG surpasses WoW on the total PC games list

SuperData has released its worldwide digital video games stats for August 2017. According to the stats, and even though the PC segment shrank 10% year-over-year, the free-to-play market has grown 28% year-over-year. This shows how many developers are, in 2017, adopting this model for their games, and could perhaps give us an idea of what will happen in 2018. Blizzard has announced that it will end support for older operating systems this October. Blizzard Bans 100,000 World of Warcraft accounts

Blizzard has apparently hit over 100,000 accounts with bans in a large bot purge. Accounts impacted were detected to be using gameplay automation methods. The ban doesn’t end with hardcore botters either, casual bot users were apparently hit as well. World of Warcraft climbs back to 7.8M subscriptions, Diablo III hits 15M sold copies

Activision Blizzard today announced better-than-expected financial results for the fourth quarter and calendar year 2013. The company revealed that as of December 31, 2013, Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft remains the #1 subscription-based MMORPG, with approximately 7.8 million subscribers. World of Warcraft Loses 1.3 Million Subscribers In Three Months

Well, it was bound to happen, eventually. In its latest financial report, Activision revealed that World of Warcraft has lost 1.3 million subscribers in the last three months. Despite that, WoW is still the most famous and profitable subscription-based MMO on the planet, with more than 8.3 million subscribers. However, that decline proves that F2P MMOs are gaining ground, and that it will be tougher for newer games (that are subscription-based) to meet the success of WoW (or even surpass it).
