Well, it took EA and Maxis a while but thankfully the offline update for SimCity has just been released. According to EA’s page, servers are currently closed to all players and the deployment of the game’s latest update has started. Electronic Arts released today the launch trailer for the upcoming DLC of SimCity, Cities of Tomorrow, that is planned for launch on November 15th. SimCity Cities of Tomorrow aims to give players the ability to evolve their cities as they take them on a journey into the future. Every future technology you place into your city transforms the surrounding area, bringing your city into the future. SimCity: Cities of Tomorrow Gets A Developer Gameplay Walkthrough

Maxis and EA have released a new developer gameplay walkthrough for SimCity’s upcoming expansion, Cities of Tomorrow. In this walkthrough, Lead Designer Stone Librande gives us more details about the new game features that have been implemented, such as multi-zone MegaTowers, new city specializations such as The Academy and OmegaCo, and new improvements for our cities based on plausible future technologies. SimCity – Update 1.7 Released – Improves Traffic & Performance On Low Spec Systems

Electronic Arts and Maxis have released a new update for SimCity. This patch comes with performance improvements for low-end PC systems, improvements to the game’s traffic, and the addition of a new server for Asia. And no, there isn’t any offline mode in case you’ve been wondering. This update will be auto-downloaded next time you run the game and you can view its complete changelog below. Ah, the power of modders. Yesterday, we informed you about the opinion of Maxis’ insider regarding a possible offline mode for SimCity. Fast forward and here we are today with a modder, playing the game in offline mode for more than 20 minutes, and without having any crashing issues. YouTube’s member ‘UKAzzer’ has showcased SimCity in offline, though some debug features were disabled (as the modder didn’t have an actual developer’s build. Still, a few things did work – including editing the main highways anywhere – proving that an Offline patch for SimCity wouldn’t take much time or trouble. Maxis Insider – SimCity Can Run In Offline Mode Without Much Effort

And the SimCity fiasco keeps going on and on. A couple of days ago, Maxis’ studio head, Lucy Bradshaw, said that an offline mode for SimCity was not possible at the moment and that it would take a significant amount of engineering work from our team to rewrite the game for single player. That was a bunch of crap, and that’s why we did not inform you about this. And it seems we were right, as a Maxis insider told RPS that SimCity can run in offline mode and that a patch wouldn’t take very much engineering. EA/Maxis employee gets banned on NeoGAF for ‘attempting to distort the news aggregate’

Before starting this article, let me tell you that we’ve seen such behaviors in the past on various boards. However, it’s really funny when a developer – that does not reveal his or her true identity – tries to damage control with an anonymous account on either a gaming website or a gaming board/forum.
