This is why we need more than 2GB vRAM in our graphics cards

You know what? Specular and diffuse maps are perhaps the cleverest things we’ve ever seen in the gaming industry. In case you were unaware of, specular and diffuse maps are usely applied when light is being casted on various textures. Ironically, they are also those that have kept us behind this whole time, as most developers use detailed specular and diffuse maps to ‘hide’ their blurry and low-resolution textures. This can be easily noticed even in Crysis, especially when there is no light to hide the textures of those, infamous rocks. As a result of that, textures in shadow places look flat and blurry as hell. Continue reading This is why we need more than 2GB vRAM in our graphics cards

We’ve heard a lot of you criticizing CryEngine 3 and believing that CryEngine 2 is better when it comes to its technical features and raw power. We’ve explained how CryEngine 3 is more advanced and that Crysis 2 did not showcase the full potential of Crytek’s next-generation engine. Naturally, some need proof instead of mere words. So look and behold some brand new screenshots from the upcoming CryEngine 3 project, Titanic: Lost in the Darkness. The following, impressive shots show off pure, in-game visuals. Crytek’s Rasmus Højengaard: PC gamers will be still worried about Crysis 3’s multiplatform development

You do remember the Crysis 2 backlash when Crytek revealed that it was going to be a multiplatform title, right? PC gamers were worried about that change and feared that this simultaneously development would impact the PC version. And frankly, they were right. Crytek’s Cevat had stated – before the game’s release – that the company would not invest in features that could not be made into consoles and when Crysis 2 got out, PC gamers found out that the PC version was a simple port of the console one and nothing more. Sure, there were some improvements to the game’s textures (and some graphical features that were only present on the PC) but the game, at its heart, was created with consoles in mind.
