Electronic Arts has announced that episodic, story-driven Campaign Missions are in development for Command & Conquer and will be available early next year. The next installment of the award-winning real-time strategy franchise from Victory Games will launch in 2013 as a free* live service, with an emphasis on continually adding new content to the game, such as Campaign Missions, based on fan feedback. Back in December, EA hosted a C&C summit, in which the company invited twelve community site heads to play this new, free to play, Command & Conquer game for two days and give feedback to the development team about their impressions. Holy Batman. Another petition being successful in this time and age? Who would have thought? And who cares, right? Well we do and – apparently – EA also does. So, good news C&C fans as the SP petition has delivered. Electronic Arts has announced that its upcoming, free-to-play, Command & Conquer game will feature a Single Player mode after all. This addition is being made due to the high demand of such a feature and is possible thanks to the F2P model that the company has embraced. Man, things are not looking good for Command & Conquer: Generals 2, the Frostbite 2 engine game that has joined EA’s F2P plans. Truth be told, we were looking forward to its Single Player mode as it had the potential to be as epic as ever, especially if we take into consideration the destructible environemnts that would be featured. Or at least that’s what we were hoping. However, SP fans are not EA’s target group. Bioware Victory’s general manager, John Van Caneghem, told PCGamer that the game will ship without a single player mode.
