Fan recreates Shenmue in CryEngine 3 – This is what Shenmue would look like with a modern-day engine

Even though we’re currently preparing our weekly CryEngine 3 gallery, we felt the need to dedicate a whole post to this promising project. Modder ‘john1990’ wanted to see what Shenmue 3 would look like with today’s engines and decided to recreate Ryo Hazuki’s room in CryEngine 3. According to the modder, all models were created with blender and exported with cryblend, while textures created with GIMP 2.8. We currently don’t know whether the modder will recreate other locations, but here is hoping for something more than just a room. For comparison purposes, we’ve also included Hazuki’s room from the Dreamcast version of Shenmue. Enjoy the screenshots after the jump! Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition – PC Performance Analysis

Last week we took a look at one of the best console ports of 2012, Square Enix’s Sleeping Dogs. Well, today we are bringing you the worst console port of this year, that is no other than Namco’s Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition. It’s really ironic criticizing a game that we got out of nowhere, however Dark Souls PC seems like a quick cash-in and nothing more. It’s true that From Software is not familiar with the PC platform but there is no excuse for what they’re currently offering us. Even if they’re not familiar with our platform, it’s not that hard to remove some console features that were put on purpose. And if you believe that From Software was able to develop a game from scratch and could not find the global values of the on-screen button indicators or the resolution lock mechanism, then you are a fool. ‘Find The Source’ Is Perhaps The Best Black Mesa/Half Life Tribute You’ll Ever See

Now this is how you create mind-blowing tributes (or trailers). Pedro Calvo has created an amazing video tribute to Black Mesa, with Joel Nielsen’s music and Victoria Teunissen on vocal duties (Connor Pelkey has also halped in creating this video with his Voice Engineering skills). And quite frankly, this is the most beautiful tribute we’ve ever seen. It’s emotional, Victoria’s voice is great, Joel’s music is outstanding, and the whole video feels so warm and calm. Now this is how trailers should be made. Forget those dubstep crap. This is art. Let us also remind you that Black Mesa Source is currently planned for a September 14th release. Enjoy!
