The Project Reality team announced this weekend that the open beta phase of its highly realistic mod for Battlefield 2 has been launched. According to the team, this open beta release is a crucial part of the development cycle. The team is providing two 100 player game servers for the duration, one for US based players and one for EU based players and aims to stress this mod’s capabilities in order to address most of its bugs/issues. The latest Top 10 PC charts have been revealed and as we can see, Company of Heroes 2 and The Sims 3: Island Paradise are the best selling titles on Steam’s digital and UK’s retail PC charts. Surprisingly enough, Football Manager 2013 has lost its PC retail crown to the new The Sims 3 expansion, and is now spotted in the third place as Relic’s strategy title, Company of Heroes 2, has also managed to surpass it. Apart from those changes, though, UK’s PC Retail Charts are dominated by a lot of The Sims 3 titles. Good news obviously for Maxis and EA. The highlights of this week are the racing shots from Synce and wjmoosting and the spectacular shots from Jeke. Synce’s and wjmoosting’s works give us a glimpse of what a Need For Speed game would look like in CryEngine 3, while Jeke’s map shows off CryEngine 3’s “open world” capabilities. Our reader ‘Cristian Fabian Munoz Isla’ has sent us a new video from his Mortal Kombat 2 mod for Doom. In this video, Cristian showcased the new fatality that was added in it, in which Shang Tsung transforms into the Cyberdemon. In addition, Cristian added Noob Saibot, Smoke and Jade who are now playable characters via cheats. The mod is 80% complete, and there is a dedicated server of this beta on Zandronum for those eager to give this a go. Enjoy! Nvidia’s ManuelG and Guru3D have released a new driver for the green team’s graphics cards. Nvidia’s GeForce 326.01 WHQL is the first driver supporting Microsoft’s newest OS, Windows 8.1, and is compatible with both Windows Vista and Windows 7. As always, some players have reported better framerates in a number of games, while others reported various issues and crashes. Vostok Games released four new screenshots from the alpha version of Survarium, the MMO spiritual successor to STALKER. Surviarium looks good in its alpha stage and seems to retain STALKER’s atmosphere. Ah, the beauty of SweetFX. As we said in our Performance Analysis, Deadpool looked awful. Thankfully, the game’s visuals can be improved, though there is nothing that can be done for some atrociously low-resolution textures that have been used.
