The MLO TEAM has released a new must-have lighting overhaul mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition. This mod aims to completely overhaul the lighting system of Skyrim. So, let’s take a closer look at it.
Modern Lighting Overhaul 2 is a small, performance-friendly mod that improves lighting across the game. It makes almost every light source look more realistic — from candles and fires to lanterns, braziers, and Dwemer lamps.
The mod makes all light sources share the same tone and brightness for a more realistic and immersive look. Bigger flames now shine brighter and light up a wider area. MLO2 also adds realistic light flickering and lets you customize how the lighting looks in your game. On top of that, it automatically adjusts to other lighting mods, so everything works smoothly without conflicts.
All in all, this is a really cool mod that can make Skyrim look better. So, if you want a more advanced or realistic lighting, you should use it. You can go ahead and download it from this link.
Sadly, the team has not shared any before/after comparisons. It did share lots of screenshots for the mod, so I’ve decided to include some of them below.
Speaking of Skyrim, here are some big fan expansions for it. The First one is Wyrmstooth. Wyrmstooth will add new quests and dungeons to the game. Then there is this mod, which brings elements from The Witcher games into Skyrim. Dragon Hall Tavern is a huge 2GB mod that adds quests, new places, an arena, and more. Then there’s Land of Vominhem, Apotheosis, and Legacy of the Dragonborn. Don’t forget to also check out this Castlevania-inspired mod. Modders have also recreated the classic PSX game, MediEvil, in Skyrim. Shumer and the Priest Kings is another DLC fan expansion mod with over 200 locations and 180+ quests. You can also download these Call of Duty and World of Warcraft mods. Oh, and here is another one that adds the cool Nemesis system from Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor to it. Lastly, we have this mod that adds six new islands to explore.
And that’s not all. Skyrim has other mods that add lots of cool stuff.
For instance, this mod allows you to destroy a lot of objects. You can also download this mod that makes the NPCs smarter. With this mod, NPCs will now have a dynamic AI system, and they’ll seek cover. Let’s also not forget this mod that adds a dynamic sanity system. SkyPal is another must-have mod. This mod brings Skyrim and Pokemon together, allowing you to become a Beastmaster.
In August 2025, we shared a mod that added support for NVIDIA DLSS 4 with Multi-Frame Gen. Unfortunately, that was a paid mod. Still, as I said, Community Shaders adds support for DLSS 4, XeSS, and FSR. These are free to everyone.
Then we have this mod that adds a real-time dismemberment system. There is also a 112GB Mod that remasters all 32,000 textures to 8K.
Lots of mods for Skyrim, right? And you can find even more. So, be sure to check out our Best Skyrim Mods article.
Have fun!

I turn my monitor off when I enter caves, it's very immersive.
"On top of that, it automatically adjusts to other lighting mods, so everything works smoothly without conflicts." This statement alone tells me you know nothing about modding lol. I highly doubt you personally tried it with every lighting mod and every popular enb preset. Quite the bold and uneducated statement to make.
He's literally only quoting the description of this mod, which has been apparently tested with other major lighting mods.
This is your first comment here and I can already tell we're going to have fun with you.😃👍
Shut up you dumb fcking nerd
Looks bit too dark, still can't hurt to try
