Artist Alfred Beddow has shared some screenshots and a video from a fan remake of Portal’s first environment in Unreal Engine 5. The artist has recreated the entire first level from the ground up, and used Ray Tracing in order to enhance its visuals.
According to the artist, each asset was individually remade and retextured. Additionally, some of these textures are up to 8K resolution.
The end result is amazing, and gives us a look at what a modern-day remake of Portal could look like. From what we know so far, Beddow does not plan to release this map to the public. There are also no plans to turn this project into a full-fledged fan remake.
Speaking of Unreal Engine 5, we also suggest taking a look at the following videos. Right now, you can download a Superman Unreal Engine 5 Demo and a Spider-Man Unreal Engine 5 Tech Demo. There are also two cool videos showing Star Wars KOTOR and Counter-Strike Global Offensive fan remakes. And finally, here is a Half Life 2 Fan Remake, an Oblivion fan remake, a Silent Hill fan remake, a World of Warcraft remake, a Skyrim remake, and a Zelda Ocarina of Time UE5 Remake.
Enjoy!

F*** these articles
It’s a no-news day (hell, even Friday was a no-news day). You can skip these articles if you don’t like them, it’s really that simple.
the main problem still is – “looks absolutely stunning”, while I open camera screenshot and see obvious intern/entry junior level shi__ty texturing on camera model, and read not surprised on the source that its – university coursework
It’s as you said. They can scroll over any post. Some people just want to whine and cry over anything that doesn’t appeal to them.
“no-news”
just pick up any of the hundred of thousands of interesting games or mods that have either been released or have a good chance of being released and make an post about it. Video games got more or less 50 years of history, why does it always have to be about recent stuff?
Dude, the thing is that you’ve just posted a bullshlt article. If it really was something nice, no one would complain. Sometimes, it’s better to post nothing at all.

This is way better than this atrocity you’ve posted.

Looks terrible for something made in UE5.
“Vital testing appartus destroyed”-GlaDOS
The portals look rough. You can tell they’re a reduced resolution, zero anti-aliasing and somehow no denoising on the reflections within portals. At this point even just blurring the entire portal inside would be an improvement. Considering how central Portals are to the game making them look passable should have been a priority.
Of course I am judging this work according to the article title and NOT the context of it being some student with limited time making it for a course or whatever.
The ghosting is ruining what would probably be decent looking visuals. All of these UE5 demonstration videos just end up making the engine look like trash, because no one seems to be stopping and thinking that you don’t want heavy ghosting in a video like this.
Well, it doesn’t look that different from the original
A white room, a cube, a giant red switch on the floor… so stunning… not.
A white room, a cube, a giant red switch on the floor… so stunning… not. Coming soon… also not.
“This Portal Fan Remake in Unreal Engine 5 looks absolutely stunning”
Are you going to post the so called “stunning” project or is just this shltty thing I saw that looks worse than the original?
This is probably the most ironic thing you could make on UE5 given Epic’s, uh, “relationship” with Valve. Like, Valve has been surprisingly cool about fan remakes and expansion of the HL/Portal universe but I imagine this would challenge their limits.
