Each and every year, I’m looking forward to QuakeCon. It’s not that it is as exciting as E3, GDC or GamesCom. No no no, QuakeCon is something completely different. However, each and every year John Carmack talks during this event. And when this programming guru speaks, we all listen. Sure, some do not like id Software’s policy – and we were among the first to criticize the PC version of RAGE – but still, Carmack is one of the few that knows his stuff. Now this is a great day today for Doom fans. Modder ‘Sergeant_Mark_IV’ has released a new version of his mind-blowing mod for id Software’s classic FPS, Brutal Doom. Brutal Doom takes Doom into a whole new level. It makes the game much more violent than before. There’s much more blood, plus it adds unique gibs, death animations, dismemberments, headshots, executions, fire and explosion particles, flares, shadows over all objects, and much more. This is a must-have mod for Doom so be sure to download it if you want to relive this fast-paced FPS. Continue reading Doom fans, rejoice; Brutal Doom Version 0.18 Is Now Available→
One of the reasons I love Doom 64 is because id Software decided to create new sprites for every monster and new textures for its environments. The end result was gorgeous back then and – to be honest – I’d love to see a remastered HD version of Doom. You know, 2D sprites that are wonderfully designed in HD. And since this is not going to happen anytime soon, I can at least satisfy my need for some Doom ‘OldSchool’ HD with this video. YouTube’s member ‘TJ Townsend’ has recreated a scene from Doom. The final image spans across 7 PSD files at a resolution of 9600×7211 pixels, and this project took him 35 hours to complete over the course of 8 days. It looks spectacular, so go ahead and take a look! Continue reading This is what a remastered HD version of Doom could look like→
Hallelujah brothers, for there is still hope in this cruel world. Remember the promised mod tools for RAGE? Well, it took id Software some time but Bethesda has finally released RAGE’s Tool Kit on Steam (you can find them in the Tools section of Steam). RAGE’s Tool Kit is 35Gb in size, so get ready for a really, really big download. Continue reading RAGE Tool Kit Finally Released→
Now this is really interesting. There is no denying that Quake looks epically amazing with its Darkplaces mod. Yes, all of its characters are blocky for today standards but the improved textures and special graphical effects give Quake’s visuals a big boost. Therefore, and instead of focusing on improving those polished visuals, modder ‘beckett007’ decided to concentrate on another aspect of id’s classic FPS, its sound (and music). Continue reading Quake Gets A New Mod That Overhauls Its Sound & Music – EpiQuake Is Out Now→
