Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter – New Update Released

Okay, now this is a great surprise. Croteam has just rolled out a new update for the HD remake of Serious Sam’s second encounter. Not only that, but the changelog is quite big with lots of fixes and additions. You’d expect Croteam to be focused on the latest adventures of Serious Sam but no, the Croatian team is still supporting this old title. So kudos to them and as always, this update will be auto-downloaded next time you start the Steam client. Continue reading Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter – New Update Released

Serious Sam 3 Protection V2 – Look up in the sky, is it a bird, is it a plane? No, it’s DRM pwnage

Oh boy, I really feel sorry for all those pirates out there. The first DRM protection routine that Serious Sam 3 introduced was the immortal scorpion. You thought that it was the only one, right? Well guess again as Croteam has included and a second DRM feature that forces the player to look up in the sky while spinning uncontrollably. Oh yeah, those who decide to pirate Serious Sam 3 will be forced to look up in the sky at one point and won’t be able to progress. This is really hilarious – well, not as much as the adorable immortal scorpion but still – and you can view a video of it, in action, after the jump. Start taking notes developers cause this is how DRM should actually be. Enjoy! Continue reading Serious Sam 3 Protection V2 – Look up in the sky, is it a bird, is it a plane? No, it’s DRM pwnage

Serious Sam 3: BFE – DRM Introduces Immortal Scorpion

Okay everyone, I have a confesion to make; I simply love Croteam. It’s not the extra and juicy details that the Croatian developer has added to the game. No no no, it’s the introduction of an immortal speedy arachnoid enemy – due to its anti-piracy protection system – that is the icing on the cake. So, if you are one of those greedy gamers that wanted to play illegaly this polished FPS game, beware; an immortal speedy red scorpion/arachnoid will come after you until you drop dead. Now that’s awesome. Of course this will get cracked, eventually, but it’s hilarious witnessing pirates complaining about that immortal enemy. Kudos to Croteam for doing something similar to Bohemia’s take on Take On Helicopters DRM with its blurry graphics. Great work guys! Serious Sam 3: BFE is the best looking PC game to date; New screenshots with artistic touch

As we told you in our Performance Analysis, Croteam had included some color options in Serious Sam 3: BFE that can be tweaked on the fly. We bet that most gamers didn’t bother with them, so we went ahead and tried to capture some screenshots with some custom, artistic settings. It’s really amazing what some color/contrast/gamma calibration can do and in order to give you an idea of those promising – almost endless – choices, we’ve also included a before and after shot of a scene from the game. Now these screenshots are not with one custom setting, so there is no point in asking us about the options we used. Each and every screenshot was tweaked with different color/contrast/gamma values. So, what do you think? Does it look better than Battlefield 3? Continue reading Serious Sam 3: BFE is the best looking PC game to date; New screenshots with artistic touch

Serious Sam 3: BFE PC Performance Analysis

At last, Croteam’s old-school FPS is finally here with us and it’s time to see how this bad boy performs with a modern-day PC. As usual, we used an overclocked Q9650 at 4.2Ghz, 4GB RAM and a GTX295 with Windows 7 64-Bit and Nvidia’s latest ForceWare drivers. First things first though; we have to congratulate Croteam for all those graphical options that are available. PC gamers can tweak pretty much everything, from the parallax occlusion mapping quality to the textures’ quality and the LOD amount. These are by far the best in-game options we’ve ever seen and every developer should take a good look at them. Continue reading Serious Sam 3: BFE PC Performance Analysis

Devolver’s CFO, Fork Parker, believes that PC gamers will pay for awesome, no matter what

While Ubisoft is still complaining about all those greedy PC gamers that are pirating their games, Devolver’s CFO seems happy with Serious Sam 3’s sales so far and believes that PC gamers will definitely “pay for awesome”. Now we’ll be honest; it’s good to hear that Serious Sam 3 is selling well, even though it was released in a month that was bombarded by lots of PC releases. Still though, we believe that Devolver and Croteam chose the wrong month to release their little beauty.
