In January 2025, we shared a demo for the fan remake of Need for Speed Underground 2 in Unreal Engine 5. Since then, the fan remake has been receiving numerous updates. So, here is a video that showcases some of its new features.
Created by apfelbaum, this fan remake attempts to bring the whole game to UE5. As its creator has stated, the Career Mode is playable from start to finish. Yup, you read that right. This project does not bring a portion of the game. Instead, it will allow you to play the whole Career Mode. Now that’s cool.
Right now, the Career Mode does not have any AI opponents or traffic. It also lacks the destructible environments that the original game has. So, hopefully, apfelbaum will add them.
The latest build of the remake will have better driving mechanics. Moreover, it will come with a new weather system, as well as a new car paint model.
The Unreal Engine 5 remake of NFS Underground 2 will also feature a new launcher. This launcher will let you easily download your game files, keep them up to date, and verify their integrity. It will be available with the next version of the fan remake.
There is currently no ETA on when the next demo will come out. As soon as it does, I’ll make sure to let you know. For now, you can get its previous demo from RPGGameplay’s Discord server.
Speaking of Unreal Engine 5, I recommend trying out these other free fan-made demos. You can grab a Superman UE5 Demo, a Halo 3: ODST Remake, and a Spider-Man UE5 Demo. There’s also a fan-made version of STALKER in Unreal Engine 5. If you love old-school FPS games, you should check out this remake of the classic FPS Blood in Epic’s engine. For Mario fans, we have this cool Super Mario Galaxy Tech Demo in Unreal Engine 5.
And that’s not all. There is a cool remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s Halo level in UE5 that you can download. Or how about this free Attack on Titan game? Then we have the fan remakes for Dino Crisis 2 and MediEvil 2. Plus, there is an amazing fan remake of Sonic Adventure 2, called Sonic Adventure 2 Redux. Zelda fans can get this fan remake of Ocarina of Time. Oh, and let’s not forget the amazing ports of Skyrim and Oblivion.
Owners of high-end GPUs can also try these two tech demos. The first one features a Witcher-like environment. The second shows off a Rome Italian Town. Last month, we also shared a demo of King’s Field 2 in UE5. Finally, we have The Lord of the Rings: Conquest Reimagined in Unreal Engine 5, a remake of Flappy Bird, a demo for Need for Speed: Underground 2, and a Diablo 2 Remake Demo. They all look awesome, so be sure to give them a try.
