Super Mario World is a classic Mario game that came out on SNES in 1990. In fact, it was one of the launch titles for that 16-bit console. But what if there was a 3D remake of it? Well, today we get to take a look at such a thing.
Created by “Bobby Ivar 2”, this 3D fan remake of Super Mario World in Unreal Engine 5 looks really cool. This fan remake uses the original 2D sprites in a 3D world. So, basically, think of it as an HD-2D Remake. And, especially for a one-man project, it looks incredible.
What’s cool here is that this fan remake has proper gameplay mechanics. You can fully control Mario, ride Yoshi, and kill your enemies. You can jump on goombas, you can collect coins, enemies can come out of the environments… hell, you can even access hidden areas.
The only downside is that this fan game is not complete, and it’s not available for download. This was created for portfolio purposes. This sucks as this is one of the best 3D fan remakes I’ve seen for an old game. So yeah, I’d really love to get my hands on it and play it.
Again, I cannot stress enough how good this 3D fan remake is. This is one of the rare cases in which a fan remake feels like a proper game. Also, since I’m a big fan of both Mario and Sonic, I love it. Bobby Ivar 2 was able to retain the art style of the SNES version. And that’s the crucial thing here. This fan remake could be the perfect nostalgia trip for all SNES fans. Alas, we can never play it.
Speaking of Unreal Engine 5, you should also check out the following fan projects. For instance, you can find some faithful remasters of Dark Souls and Dark Souls 3, which are super cool. A few months ago, we also shared an amazing remake of Toy Story 2. Then there’s this cool fan remake of Metal Gear Solid. Let’s also not forget this fantastic fan remake of STALKER that’s worth a look. Oh, and don’t miss the Grand Theft Auto 6 fan concept in UE5; it’s pretty impressive. In February 2024, we also shared fan remakes of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas and GTA 3, as well as an Uncharted fan game. We also have a fan remaster of Unreal Gold in UE5. You should also watch the full-on remake video for Final Fantasy 9, and this HD-2D Fan Remake for Xenogears.
Need for Speed Carbon and Tony Hawk’s Underground have also received some cool remakes. Oh, and there is a fan remake of Tomb Raider The Last Revelation, featuring Angelina Jolie and Christoph Walz. And if that’s not enough, there are fan remakes for Star Wars: Republic Commando, Death Stranding, Fallout 4, Grand Theft Auto 4, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Fallout 4, Resident Evil 1, and Silent Hill 3’s Lakeside Amusement Park. Finally, there is this Studio Ghibli-like teaser for Zelda: Ocarina of Time in Unreal Engine 5.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
