Sea of Thieves has the best water effects in a video-game

Microsoft and Rare have launched the closed beta phase for Sea of Thieves and from what we’ve experienced so far, it appears that this game features the best water effects in a video-game. While the game features cartoon-ish visuals, its water effects are better than the ones featured in Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag or Assassin’s Creed Origins. Age of Empires: Definitive Edition releases on February 20th

Microsoft has just announced thatĀ Age of Empires: Definitive Edition will release on February 20th. Age of Empires Definitive Edition will feature full remastered visuals with 4K support, new zoom levels, new and improved gameplay, as well as a fully remastered soundtrack. Microsoft details performance impact of Spectre and Meltdown fixes on a variety of PC configurations

Microsoft is currently deploying the Spectre and Meltdown fixes via its Windows Update app and has just detailed the performance impact users can expect from them. As we’ve reported, these security fixes are now available only for Intel’s systems as AMD’s configurations experience some booting issues after applying them. Closed beta phase for Sea of Thieves begins on January 29th

Microsoft and Rare have announced that the open beta phase for Sea of Thieves will begin on January 29th. The Closed Beta will be accessible to eligible players who joined the Sea of Thieves Insider Programme before December 1st 2017 or who have pre-ordered the game and will last until January 29th. Microsoft halts distribution of Spectre & Meltdown fixes on AMD systems after reports of unbootable PCs

It appears that Microsoft and AMD have messed things up. According to reports, a number PC systems with AMD’s processors were boot failing after installing the Spectre and Meltdown fixes. Microsoft investigated those reports and discovered that some AMD chipsets are getting into an unbootable state after applying those fixes. As a result of that, Microsoft has stopped distributing these fixes on AMD systems. The state of DX12 games in 2017, is DirectX 12 losing its steam?

Back in 2016, we published an article about the state of DirectX 12 in PC gaming. As we wrote back then, DX12 failed to impress as a new API. Most of the DX12 versions of 2016’s PC games were running slower than their DX11 counterparts, something that really surprised us. However, back then we only tested NVIDIA’s GPUs.
