EA has removed Denuvo from Immortals of Aveum

Now here is a pleasant surprise. EA has just removed the Denuvo anti-tamper tech from Immortals of Aveum. Immortals of Aveum came out in August 2023, meaning that it took around one and a half years to remove it.

EA has removed Denuvo from some of its older titles. For instance, Tales of Kenzera: ZAU and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor are no longer plagued by it. So, its removal from Immortals of Aveum does not really come as a surprise.

Immortals of Aveum suffered from some traversal stutters. And, to be honest, I expect the Denuvo-free version to also have them. That’s how Ascendant Studios developed the game. During specific areas, the game loads instantaneously a lot of data, which is exactly what is causing the “traversal” stutters.

In short, don’t expect the game to run better now. And don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that Denuvo cannot cause issues in some games. However, in this particular case, none of the game’s performance issues appeared to be caused by Denuvo. So, make sure to temper your expectations.

As we’ve reported, other companies have also removed Denuvo from several of their titles. In March 2023, KRAFTON removed Denuvo from The Callisto ProtocolNEOWIZ has also removed it from its Souls-like game, Lies of P. In October 2024, Gearbox has also removed it from Homeworld 3.

And that’s not all. Bethesda’s Wolfenstein YoungbloodGhostwire: Tokyo and Doom Eternal no longer have it. Warner Bros has also removed it from Mortal Kombat 11. Then we have Bandai Namco who has removed it from Tekken 7 and NARUTO TO BORUTO: SHINOBI STRIKER.

Another company that has removed Denuvo from a lot of its PC titles is Square Enix. The Japanese team has removed it from games like The Diofield ChronicleVALKYRIE ELYSIUMTRIANGLE STRATEGYLIVE A LIVE and Forspoken. Moreover, both Octopath Traveler and its sequel no longer use it. And, in May 2024, SE also removed Denuvo from Star Ocean The Second Story R.
