This Pokemon HD-2D Remake in Unreal Engine 5 Looks So Cool

Pokemon fans, here is something special for you today. YouTube’s ‘NIONX’ has shared a video, showcasing what a Pokemon HD-2D Remake in Unreal Engine 5 could have looked like. This project has a visual style similar to what we’ve seen in Square Enix’s latest HD-2D remakes. So, if you are a fan of them, you should definitely check it out.

In this video, we get to see Kanto being remastered in HD-2D (with a mix of Black and White style and other inspiration). We get to see Ash, lots of Pokemon, and most of the main characters. For instance, at one point, we see Misty and Psyduck.

From what I’ve seen, NIONX has not implemented any gameplay features. In other words, you can’t talk to the NPCs or fight other Pokemon. Still, the Kanto area appears to be lively, with NPCs moving around. This isn’t an empty city. It also looks retro-lovely.

What’s also cool is that this project does not have “that” Unreal Engine 5 style. In fact, it won’t remind you of UE5. This shows that devs and artist can make their UE5 games look unique, provided they want to.

As with most of these remakes, this Pokemon HD-2D Remake was created for portfolio purposes. You cannot download and experience it on your PC. Still, this 36-minute walkthrough video will show you everything the YouTuber has created.

Speaking of Unreal Engine 5, you should also check out the following fan projects. For instance, you can find some faithful remasters of Dark Souls and Dark Souls 3, which are super cool.
