Modder ‘WestAard’ has released a new HD Texture Pack for Fallout: New Vegas. This new mod is around 18GB in size, and it will upscale all of the game’s textures. As such, I highly recommend it to everyone who plans on replaying this classic Fallout game.
To upscale the original textures, the modder used a node-based upscaling program called chaiNNer. WestAard upscaled the original textures by four times. This means that the new textures look sharper and retain the art style of the original ones.
As I said, this mod is around 18GB in size. Right now, the FNV Texture Upscale Project only upscales the textures of the base game. In future versions, the modder plans to add support for its DLCs.
You can download the mod from this link. To install it, you’ll simply have to drop the ‘Textures’ folder into your Fallout: New Vegas Data folder. And that’s it.
At the end of the article, you will find some comparison screenshots. These will give you a pretty good idea of what you can expect from it. As you will see, the new textures look amazing. However, the problem with Fallout: New Vegas is its dated lighting system. There is an RTX Remix Mod for it in development. Sadly, though, it’s still in a very early dev stage.
If you are into Fallout: New Vegas, you can also try these other mods for it. For instance, this mod adds real-time reflections. Another one changes over 1,000 functions to make the game run smoother. Plus, there’s a mod to make the game’s characters even smarter. Another must-have mod is this one, which improves collision accuracy and fixes/optimizes meshes.
In June 2024, we shared a mod that brought some STALKER-like anomalies to the game. Moreover, you can get this mod that adds physically-based vehicles to the game. And if you love quests, there’s a mod that gives you an endless supply of new ones. Let’s also not forget the Visuals Improved Content Expanded Mod. This mod fills the surroundings of Vegas to make it feel more like a real city.
There are also some cool fan-made expansions for New Vegas. Four of them are being made as we speak. These are Fallout: Broken City, Fallout Van buren Remake, Fallout: Nuevo Mexico and Star Wars Open Worlds. On the other hand, we have these DLC-sized mods that you can grab and play right now. So, you can download Fallout New California, Fallout: Free Cheyenne Demo, and Fallout New Vegas: Out of Bounds. We also have Fallout The Frontier and Retribution 2. Another cool fan expansion is Tales of New Reno. Let’s also not forget Dawn of Stealthtenza, a new DLC-sized expansion mod that offers 3 hours of new content. There is also a demo of another fan remake mod for the canceled Fallout 3 game, called Fallout Revelation Blues.
Have fun!

using hd textures is the worst thing you can do for performance and crashes
As much as I love upscaling textures, especially for old games that had horrible graphics for their time, it's unfortunate that even something as simple as upscaling textures could cause crashes, probably even very frequent crashes on some games.
not really.
Back in 2022 I finished new vegas and all dlcs without much issue on modded version with improved textures, lighting etc.
here`s my gallery, game didn`t looked pretty descent considering how old it is and it`s still a lot of fun

Barely any difference
With these old games, upgrading the lighting goes so much farther than textures
Pretty! This has been a really wonderful post. Many thanks for providing these details.
Great, but what about parallax?
Parallax looks horrible in this engine
Who in his right mind wouldn't want to download 18 GB of textures to have the privilege to admire THIS? 😍😍😍😍😍
