Sony has acquired Bungie for $3.6 billion

Sony has announced that it has acquired the studio behind the original Halo and the Destiny games, Bungie. According to the company, Sony has acquired Bungie for $3.6 billion.

SIE president and CEO Jim Ryan, said:

“We’ve had a strong partnership with Bungie since the inception of the Destiny franchise, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to officially welcome the studio to the PlayStation family.”

Now what’s interesting here is Bungie will remain an independent subsidiary with the option to publish where they want. Or at least that’s what Sony claims. However, I’m certain that Sony did not pay over $3 billion just so that Bungie can keep releasing multi-platform games. So yeah, while Bungie may release some games on multiple platforms, we can assume that some of its future high-quality games will release exclusively on PS5 (or on both PS5 and PC).

This comes two weeks after Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision.

Stay tuned for more!

          1. I should have been more clear. I meant RPG elements in non-RPG games.
            Look at the AC franchise or the last Wolfenstein game

      1. Yeah…is a blatant response to Microsoft’s recent acquisitions … but Bungie sucks in comparison to Activision and Bethesda!

  1. Is this a response from Microsoft buying Activision?
    Bungie finally leaves the clutches of Activision, and then gets right back to the clutches of another company…

    1. I think Sony now has a studio that can create a fps game if COD goes exclusive in the future. And now they have a microtransactions farm on top of it.

      1. You don’t pay $3.6b, effectively Half of what MS paid for the combined total of all of Zenimax’s IPs, without exploiting that purchase.

        Especially if the only IP the studio has been associated with in almost a decade and a half, is Destiny.

        They paid 3.6b because MS told them COD is for sure going exclusive after their contracted games end, and Sony was left f*cking scrambling.

        HALF OF WHAT MS PAID FOR ZENIMAX!

    2. kinda like with medal of honor how they went out there and made cod to escape ea and then they made respawn and titanfall and went back in clutches of ea.

    3. Bungie is a husk, barely anyone with talent there left.
      They did nothing but pump out Destiny 2 content instead of working on something new, years after they left Activision.

      That really tells all you need to know

    4. Real life is not an uncle Scrooge McDuck simulator, you do not panic buying a company in 2 weeks after your competitor. This kind of moves was planned in advance long before this.

  2. I think sony is going in the opposit way of microsoft. Probably sony buy studios to creat new IP’s. Microsoft in other hands make the old games woke to oblivion.

  3. The Video Game Industry (which has surpassed the gross revenue of Hollywood), is under extreme pressure by Jewish corporations and interest groups to consolidate as the industry becomes one of the few entertainment mediums left with a primarily White audience.

    Sony has just announced the acquisition of Bungie studios and Microsoftaquired Bethesda and Activision some time ago.

    Mergers and Acquisitions and rapid consolidation of IP are strong indicators of an excess of cheap capital flowing into an Industry. The reason? As box office returns plummet and viewership of TV dries up, Jews are realizing Vidya is the last mass-market media they have. In a desperate attempt to consolidate their power, they will accelerate the Games-as-Propaganda model while continuing to push the over-financialization of the industry through micro-transactions, pre-ordering, NFT schemes and VR. Meanwhile, the anti-White, anti-male, Jewish political commissars will drive out anyone with even a modicum of taste or self-respect from mainstream gaming.

    Expect to see the trickle of AAA refugees to retro-gaming and Indie games become a deluge. There will be an increasing market for jewish free games, but expect to see the Jewish industry crack down competition with more overt means.

  4. Lol. Where are all the PS fanboys crying about monopolizing now? 😀

    Also, what a sh*t purchase. Destiny 2 is literally a game that can’t generate hype at all. Everyone blamed Activision for that but Bungie left and the game still sucks just as much dong.

  5. The lengths this site and it’s comments section will go to spew hate regardless of facts…
    Just because the vocal toxic minority hates it doesn’t diminish it’s value.

    Sony knows the true value of the player base.

      1. It has a F2P offering, it is far from fully F2P. Ask the 1 million pre-orders of the next expansion. But hey, whatever you need to believe in.

  6. They just bought the name behind it. It’s why domain business is doing so well right now as well with new extensions, people paying absurd amount of money for names, this is just a pumped up version worth 3 billion. Chump change.

    I don’t understand why they just dont hire proper developers and workers, give a big FU to Wokeness and hire to win and you will win, this is the flaw these companies don’t understand, sony is also one of them, i dont forget the twitter ordeal and wokeness.

    if I was a game studio, id get rid of the leeches and spare tires and hire talent, tell them what I wanted, it would be smarter than spending 3 billion on 6 letters, because that’s what this is all about.

  7. Compared to Zenimax which had a ton of game studios and games… this seems like a rip off. One game dev studio with barely anything with it.
    Zenimax = 7.5 billion
    Bungie = 3.6 billion… WTF

    Bungie was the one that wanted to become independent. I am guessing they are running out of funds. And with their sunset gating dlcs… now they need someone to take care of them again. LOL
