Similarly to NBA 2K21, the PC version of NBA 2K22 will be based on its old-gen build. What this means is that the game will – more or less – look and play the same as last year’s offering. Moreover, NBA 2K22 will not support cross-play between different platforms.
2K Games revealed this in its latest FAQ for NBA 2K22. As the team specifically states, the current-gen version of NBA 2K22 is only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. 2K Games has listed the PC in the previous generation version/build (which includes PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro, Xbox One, Xbox One X, Nintendo Switch, and Steam).
And here is 2K Games’ petty excuse about treating PC gamers as second-class citizens:
“This is something [bringing the next-gen version to PC] the team is passionate about and will continue to investigate what is possible for the franchise in the future. For now, the focus was on assuring NBA 2K22 was optimized for the new consoles (PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S), while also making sure the experience remains fresh and innovative for players on other platforms.”
A couple of days ago, EA Sports also announced that FIFA 22 will be old-gen on PC. Not only that but Madden NFL 22 is also old-gen on PC. And yes, I’m almost certain that Konami will do the exact same thing with eFootball PES 2022.
As we’ve already said, if you want to be treated as second-class citizens then go ahead and purchase this year’s FIFA, NBA 2K and Madden games. However, we believe that PC fans deserve better than this. And yes, you should vote with your wallets. Plain and simple.
Lastly, and similarly to FIFA 22 and Madden 22, we won’t have a PC Performance Analysis article for NBA 2K22.

There was this small window of time (maybe 2 years) when the series was pretty good, for a basket game on PC. Shame it endup following EA’s steps into a virtual casino.

I agree with this article. These companies should not get a dime..and I mean overall. See how EA likes it when no one buys battlefield. I know..not gonna happen, but these companies are thieves, and not just because of the subject at hand.
They want to be able to charge all their microtransactions. PC gamers will just have a mod for it. God forbid someone should make a game more fun without paying the ferryman.
Madden’s ultimate team makes over 40% of EA’s entire revenue. Think about that for a second.
