Xbox 360 emulator Xenia now supports DirectX 12, first Halo 3 DX12 screenshots revealed

The development team behind Xenia, the best Xbox 360 emulator, has been making some progress and decided to completely ditch the Vulkan API in favour of DirectX 12. As such, and for the time being, Xenia is now exclusive to Windows 10 and the team has shared the first screenshots from Halo 3 being emulated in this latest DX12 version of Xenia.

The team has made impressive steps towards emulating this title, though it’s not close to being perfectly emulated. Also, the team did not include any framerate counter so we don’t know how the game actually runs on it. Still, and since Microsoft has not announced yet the Masterchief Collection for the PC, this may be the only way PC gamers will be able to experience Halo 3 on their machines.

Alongside Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST, Halo 4 has just started rendering and Halo: Anniversary actually shows the opening movie now. As such, we may actually be able to play some of those older Halo games on our machines in the near future.

Last but not least, the team aims to convert Xenia back to Vulkan at a later stage (we don’t know though whether there are options for DX12 AND Vulkan).

Those interested can download the newest experimental build for Xenia from here.

Enjoy!

  1. Most of their new games are arriving on PC though, that’s the important thing.
As for Halo:MCC, I wouldn’t rule out completely the possibility of a PC version in the future, even if they deny they are working on it.

    1. “Most of their new games are arriving on PC though, that’s the important thing.”

too bad all those games are trash and MS doesnt do good games anymore.

      1. Forza is same trash game every year, no one cares. Halo franchise is garbage like destiny and other dog shet shooters. Microshet too is garbage and now one other than converted peasants like you care about microsoft and their games.

          1. you two fit together because you both are converted peasants who play PC games with controllers. this website is not a place for peasants, muslims and shills, reeeeeee.

        1. xbox is alive because of nigros, they’re so stupid to stick to a dead brand and feel like they’re part of something. they’re brain dead like you.
even if halo was on PC, you would not a single xbox peasant move to PC because even if we ignore their low iq and stupidity, they’re poor as hell so they literally can’t.
if you want evidence just check twitter and youtube, you are either playing dumb or just blind and actually dumb.

          1. because you’re a lefty cuck who will deny it regardless and say some bs like this is minority. you will deny nygger culture exist, you will deny that nyggers have low iq, you will deny that nyggers are inferior to other races, you will deny that nyggers are poor. what you will do is you’re going to just mention one dumb nygger like an nba player or a dumb rapper and tell me to not generalize even though majority fit the stereotype, i proved you wrong again and again before you just say some bullshet and leave.

          2. i need help. i’m bipolar, i have multiple personalities, sometimes i don’t remember my own name or what i did or said days, hours or minutes ago. sometimes i don’t fully understand what’s going on around me. i’m not a bad person, my life is just hard and i can’t get help.

      1. “The Xbox would sell without exclusives.”
“Guess Halo, which you just described as a “garbage franchise” is so popular that it is single-handedly keeping the Xbox alive…”

i just found a whole another level of rytardation in your comment.

  2. Man, Bungie sure is forgetful and ungrateful.
Marathon on Mac then Halo promised on PC but more or less made for XBOX and we only got 2 in the series before MS said FU > PCM and ruined any chance of us getting more Halo.
Coincidentally, I think my fond memories of Halo are just that, memories because I am pretty sure the game isn’t all that great anyways, nostalgia and all.

They can keep their basic games, I am good playing the thousands upon thousands I have on PC without any sort of BS holding me back.

The logic, MS software for PC, Bungie games on Mac, both shun PC users. Yes, I know, it’s a business thing but why deny us after they make their money? Don’t answer seeing how I really don’t care because they are both dead to me. Being dead doesn’t mean I can’t piss on their proverbial corpses.

      1. I finished it when it was released. Sure, at first I was in awe.

Going back to it after all these years, my god it’s horrible, and no I don’t mean the graphics. The way the brain works is very powerful, you just have to respect it. By no means am I saying it wasn’t great then, but now, it’s subpar at best.

Don’t get offended. I also feel this way about old movies. I can’t tolerate 5 mins of “Calssics”

        1. The game is 17 years old. The game still masterpiece even with the graphics that we have nowadays. But the strongest point of the game is it gameplay.

Also you can play in PC with better resolution and framerate. I have the Anniversary version for Xbox 360 and looks gorgeous, in Xbox One is even better with the MCC.

          Graphics are not everything

  3. Odd why they’re dropping an open source API for a closed one… I’ll need to read up their decision behind that…

  4. When you’re working on something as technically difficult as emulation, you don’t make these kind of turnarounds and ditch previous work based on a whim or free world ideals… They must have had very good technical reasons for it.
