User releases patch that unblocks Windows Update in Windows 7 & 8.1 on next-gen AMD & Intel CPUs
As we have already reported, Microsoft has blocked Windows Update in Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 on AMD’s and Intel’s next-gen processors. According to Microsoft, this is done because the company wants to focus on deep integration between Windows and the silicon, while maintaining maximum reliability and compatibility with previous generations of platform and silicon. However, a GitHub user was able to re-enable Windows Update in Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 on both Intel’s and AMD’s newest CPUs with a very, very, very simple tweak. In case you didn’t know, Windows 10 defaults at a Balanced Power Plan that automatically balances performance with energy consumption on capable hardware. This basically means that this mode may, in some cases, have an affect on overall performance while playing games.
