User releases patch that unblocks Windows Update in Windows 7 & 8.1 on next-gen AMD & Intel CPUs

As we have already reported, Microsoft has blocked Windows Update in Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 on AMD’s and Intel’s next-gen processors. According to Microsoft, this is done because the company wants to focus on deep integration between Windows and the silicon, while maintaining maximum reliability and compatibility with previous generations of platform and silicon. However, a GitHub user was able to re-enable Windows Update in Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 on both Intel’s and AMD’s newest CPUs with a very, very, very simple tweak. AMD Ryzen 5 CPUs are now available and while slower, they offer a great performance/price ratio

It’s no secret that AMD’s Ryzen 7 CPUs were unable to compete – in gaming – with Intel’s top quad-core and six-core offers. Still, some indicated that AMD’s Ryzen 5 CPUs were the ones actually meant for gaming, that they would be – perhaps – faster than the Ryzen 7 CPUs. Well, AMD’s Ryzen 5 CPUs are currently available and according to third-party benchmarks, these CPUs are slower in gaming than both AMD’s Ryzen 7 and Intel’s CPUs. AMD’s new Ryzen Balanced power plan improves performance on multiple games in Windows 10

In case you didn’t know, Windows 10 defaults at a Balanced Power Plan that automatically balances performance with energy consumption on capable hardware. This basically means that this mode may, in some cases, have an affect on overall performance while playing games. Microsoft has included a High Performance Mode in Windows 10, however we are pretty sure that a lot of PC users are unaware of it.
