Man, today is a special day indeed. As we said earlier, Wolfensteind 3D turned 20 years old, but did you know that Epic Games was founded at this day, 20 years ago? Imagine that. The biggest rival of iD Software was created in – almost – the same day that iD’s first indie title – as iD was an indie studio back then – was released, a game that was meant to make them popular to the gaming industry. You know what? Today feels really like an April’s fools day. I mean, take a look at Romero’s statements that we’ve posted a couple of hours ago. Sounded awesome, right? Well, here comes and Cliff Bleszinski to jump on the ‘less-linear games’ band-wagon. No, I’m not kidding. That Cliff, the same one that was responsible for slow paced and scripted games like GoW – and my God GoW 3 has lots of scripted events – has revealed that he wants to produce less linear games. Who would have thought. Continue reading Cliff Bleszinski wants Epic to return to their roots; wants to produce less linear/scripted games→
Map maker mrsmo3d has created a pretty amazing open-level on UDK that will certainly remind you of Skyrim. This environment is based in Sweden, in one of its many fjords sits this typical fishing village with fortifications surrounding the houses, intended to be a crisp early morning, the surrounding area has a river flowing to the lake from the mountains behind. This is basically a Viking age environment built and took the modder around 6 months to create it. It looks bloody amazing, so go ahead and give it a go! Back in the Quake 2 days, Unreal was bashed to death. I tell you guys, there were lots of PC gamers that hated it (my guess is that they bashed it because their PC systems could not run it). Ironically, these days it is considered one of the best FPS titles and we are glad to see most of those naysayers admitting that it was way ahead of its time. Man, I still remember the first encounter with the Scaarj. Or when you got out of the spaceship and admired that beautiful, huge level with the waterfall. Those were some pretty impressive visuals. We’ve all been waiting for the reveal of the next iteration of the Unreal Engine, but it seems that we’ll have to wait a little bit more. Epic’s Mark Rein revealed in GDC 2012 – behind closed doors – that Unreal Engine 4’s tech demo will be hopefully revealed later this year to the public. In other words, we can only hope that someone has managed to capture it with a camera. Or perhaps someone inside Epic leaking it? Do it guys, we are with you. But there is more than that, so keep reading. Continue reading Unreal Engine 4 public reveal later this year, Samaritan tech demo running in one Kepler Nvidia card→
Cliff Bleszinski and PC gamers are in open war for a couple of years. So imagine our surprise when Cliffy B stepped on VGA’s yesterday and announced Fortnite, Epic’s new IP that is clearly inspired by our beloved Minecraft. And although both Cliff and Epic haven’t announced the game’s platforms, we strongly suggest Epic to avoid releasing it on the PC at all costs. Why? Keep reading to find out. Epic Games announced today an agreement with Square Enix. Epic Games will be granting Square Enix a license to develop multiple games with Epic’s award-winning Unreal Engine 3 technology. Epic Games Japan, which supports the company’s licensees locally, worked directly with Square Enix on the new license. And here comes the big question; what happened to the next-generation engine that Square Enix was working on? And why won’t the giant Japanese company use the in-house engine for their games? Figures. Continue reading Square Enix Licenses Unreal Engine 3 For Multiple Games→
Now here is something really interesting. We do know that Cliffy B hates our beloved platform and we do know that Microsoft wants to push PC gaming – well, according to their latest statements. And we wouldn’t be spreading a rumor for a possible GoW 3 port if Microsoft hadn’t revealed a screenshot which indicates that Gears of War 3 is a ‘multi-platform’ game. Wait what? Multi-platform? Keep reading. Continue reading Rumor Alert: Is Gears of War 3 coming to the PC?→
