Half Life 2 Meets Doom In This Spectacular Garry’s Mod Add-On

Doom-Half-Life2
Now this is simply amazing. YouTube’s GhorsHammer is creating an incredible add-on for Garry’s Mod called gmDoom. According to its description, gmDoom is a partial source port of Doom integrated into Garry’s Mod 13. Assets are loaded from an IWAD, and no binary modules are required. The good news is that this add-on will be available through the Steam Workshop once bug testing is complete, which – according to the modder – should be in only a few days. You can view a video demonstration below, so make sure to give it a go! Continue reading Half Life 2 Meets Doom In This Spectacular Garry’s Mod Add-On

From 1992 To 2012: Graphic evolution of First Person Shooters

Doom 2
YouTube’s member ‘drloser333’ has created a cool video that showcases the graphical evolution of First Person Shooters from 1992 to 2012. This video shows off the original versions of the games that are featured – without any mods applied to them – rendered in actual resolutions of the period. Ironically, Unreal is nowhere to be found in this video and that’s a real shame as back in the days, Unreal looked better than anything available. That’s a big foul in our opinion, though we should note that drloser333 picked only one game from almost each year. But anyway, it’s a pretty good video and the montage is awesome. Enjoy! This is what a remastered HD version of Doom could look like

Doom
One of the reasons I love Doom 64 is because id Software decided to create new sprites for every monster and new textures for its environments. The end result was gorgeous back then and – to be honest – I’d love to see a remastered HD version of Doom. You know, 2D sprites that are wonderfully designed in HD. And since this is not going to happen anytime soon, I can at least satisfy my need for some Doom ‘OldSchool’ HD with this video. YouTube’s member ‘TJ Townsend’ has recreated a scene from Doom. The final image spans across 7 PSD files at a resolution of 9600×7211 pixels, and this project took him 35 hours to complete over the course of 8 days. It looks spectacular, so go ahead and take a look! Continue reading This is what a remastered HD version of Doom could look like

Donkey Kong Country Pseudo Engine Coming To GZDoom – Create Your Own 2D Platform Levels

Donkey Kong Country
Our reader ‘Cristian Fabian Muñoz Isla’ about a brilliant idea. Modder ‘Doomero’ is creating a pseudo engine for GZDoom that will help you create 2D platform games. In its current form, this engine will be ideal for Donkey Kong Country levels, as Cristian will add all of Donkey Kong Country’s characters, enemies, items, textures, acs, and decoration details. Thus, a mapper will simply have to create the map he wants to and everything will work fine. Continue reading Donkey Kong Country Pseudo Engine Coming To GZDoom – Create Your Own 2D Platform Levels
