Back in November 2023, we shared a fan remake of Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 in Unreal Engine 4. And even though almost two years have passed, Ruppertle is still working on it. In fact, a few weeks ago, he shared a brand-new video. So, make sure to watch it if you are a Star Wars fan.
This new video gives us a first look at the swimming mechanics made for level 3, “The Return Home to Sulon”. This is still a WIP, meaning that the artist will further polish it. Still, this is something that may interest our Dark Forces 2 fans.
As a bonus, I added two more videos below. The first video shows the workshop, which is the last room in level 3. The second video shows more gameplay from that level. It looks like the artist is working hard to finish level 3. So, we might get a new demo once it’s done.
Right now, you can still download the latest version, V1.02. This version includes 3 official levels from the original game and 4 Survival levels. It also comes with a Sandbox mode and a 3D model viewer. Plus, you will find a bonus level for testing.
As I’ve reported back then, this fan remake of Star Wars: Dark Forces 2 uses Unreal Engine 4. From what I know, the modder does not plan to port it to UE5. And, to be honest, I don’t really mind it. The priority here is to complete more levels for it. Porting it to UE5 is something that should happen only if and when the fan remake is finished.
Now, while this fan remake is not using UE5, I suggest trying out these free fan-made UE5 demos. You can grab a Superman UE5 Demo, a Halo 3: ODST Remake, and a Spider-Man UE5 Demo. There’s also a fan-made version of STALKER in Unreal Engine 5. If you love old-school FPS games, you should check out this remake of the classic FPS Blood in Epic’s engine.
And that’s not all. There is a cool remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s Halo level in UE5 that you can download. Or how about this free Attack on Titan game? Then we have the fan remakes for Dino Crisis 2 and MediEvil 2. Plus, there is an amazing fan remake of Sonic Adventure 2, called Sonic Adventure 2 Redux. Oh, and let’s not forget the amazing ports of Skyrim and Oblivion.
Owners of high-end GPUs can also try these two tech demos. The first one features a Witcher-like environment. The second shows off a Rome Italian Town. Last month, we also shared a demo of King’s Field 2 in UE5. Finally, we have The Lord of the Rings: Conquest Reimagined in Unreal Engine 5, a remake of Flappy Bird, a demo for Need for Speed: Underground 2, and a Diablo 2 Remake Demo. They all look awesome, so be sure to give them a try.
