Gears 5 October 1st update released, adds Async Compute to NVIDIA GPUs, adds new Skill Cards

The Coalition has released a brand new update for Gears 5. According to the release notes, the October 1st update adds some new Skill Cards. These Skill Cards provide strong new bonuses when playing in the Venom for Keegan and Lahni, plus an additional Venom-based option for Mac. Moreover, this patch enables Async Compute to NVIDIA GPUs.

According to reports, the Async Compute does not bring any major improvements to the latest NVIDIA GPUs. Still, it’s great having that option for both AMD and NVIDIA GPUs. Since there aren’t any major performance improvements, we won’t be re-testing the game. If you want to know how the game runs, you can check out our PC Performance Analysis. It’s also worth noting that this update comes with a number of fixes. For instance, it fixes the missing DBNO notification when players are DBNO. It also fixes a bug that could prevent Ultimates from being activated on PC, as well as crashes when transitioning through some cinematics on Nvidia Cards.

Furthermore, this patch adds an option to disable down/kill notifications next to crosshairs, an Easy Navigation accessibility option, and an Aim Toggle Accessibility option.

As always, the Windows Store will download this update the next time you launch it. You can also find its complete changelog here.

Have fun!
